What an embarrassment!

It's one thing when a Geocacher logs as "found" a mark that has clearly not been found. We've seen reference marks, azimuth marks, and resets all confused for the main station disk.

But here's one that moves the ball many yards closer to the Hall of Shame:

BO 05 (JD2833) was set in 1992, apparently followed a few years later by some road widening/construction/improvements. The mark, I imagine, was a casualty of that work. A presumed replacement, BO 82 (no NGS PID) was set in 1999.

Despite the clear evidence to the contrary, no fewer than four geocachers observed the BO 82 disk — two of them posted photos! — and logged BO 05 as "found!"

Bad enough on Geocaching.com, but one person then reported the mark to NGS as found in good condition with this report: "FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH, THE STATION DISK IS STAMPED AS BO-82, WHEN IT SHOULD BE BO-05. THE AZIMUTH MARK IS CORRECTLY STAMPED BO-05A."

My head hurts....

Hey Art.....

Good catch. It appears that the rather substantial check GEOCAC sent (to pay your moving expenses from WASHDC to Missouri) was money well spent! :)

P.S. You DID get the check, didn't you? The bookkeeper says it has not cleared the bank.
