Penguinplus
I am somewhat new. I was wondering if anyone had some fun simple cache ideas. I would like a nice camouflaged container. Thanks. Quote Link to comment
g_o_caching
Think of where the cache will be placed. In the shadows? Use flat black paint. Is it going to be a magnetic cache? Paint it the color of the surface you will stick it on. I once found a magnetic nano with the exact shade of hunter green as the steel park bench it was under. Is it going to be in grass or weeds? Use tans, grays, or greens. Combinations of them can be used on the cache. Try to match the colors where it will be hid. As for the container, use waterproof if it will be exposed to elements. If the container will be protected it won't have to be as weather proof. Use zip lock bags to put logsheets in whenever you can. Do a "search" for cache containers and see what there is to hide. It helps you when looking for caches to see what can be hidden and in what. Quote Link to comment
+popokiiti
Also have a look in the Geocaching Topics section for a thread called Cool Cache Containers. Many members have posted pictures...make a brew, as it runs to quite a few pages. Quote Link to comment

+mwellman
Michigan - winters - cold - snow. Ammo cans, Lock'n'locks, thick walled thermos. Regular sandwich containers will melt in the sun and freeze in the winter and then crack. Flat camo paint (not shiny) or camo hockey tape. We have tried the camo duct tape but it is shinier. The hockey tape is made to stand up in wet/frozen conditions. Try sporting sections of your hardware store. The stone effect spray paint can also camo/age an container, too. Ours have survived several Canadian winters and should last for several more. Quote Link to comment
+mwellman
Oops. Double post. Sorry. Yes, that is a camoed lock'n'lock on M's head! Found at the local stationary store. Lots of camo tape! Edited October 5, 2010 by mwellman Quote Link to comment
+msrubble
One fun and simple, but not always inexpensive, way to camouflage a container is to hide it in something bigger. A waterproof container inside a rubber ducky, birdhouse, hunting decoy, fake fruit. Paper tree wrap is also surprisingly effective, if you have some around. Tan colored, crinkly. +vw_k
I've seen some great camoflage paint jobs created by placing leaves on the cache container and spraying over them with suitable spray paint. If the leaves are then removed and it's done again with different leaves and colours of paint a camoflage pattern can be built up. Quote Link to comment
