+apyro
Garmin GPS units are in general a good choice. You can get units such as the eTrex model that would be good to start with and are affordable. Quote Link to comment
+SgtSue
Try looking at Magellan's new GC. Paperless, easy to use, has the geocaching FAQs on it for newbie learning, and lists for $199 (but I'm sure by now you can get it cheaper now). Good beginner GPS and the least expensive true paperless unit I know of. Quote Link to comment
+bwilliamson
Both very good choices. I've see the ETrex on ebay for around $50 used if you're not really willing to put down a lot of cash for a GPS and maybe not like or use it. Quote Link to comment
+Woodstramp
I've been seeing Delorme PN-20's online going for around $100 these days. That hundred gets you a GPS,free detail map software (topo and street), an SD card (for detail maps/imagery, a USB cable and a certificate to try some aerial imagery. If you become a Premium Member here you can load cache files in .gpx format and send them to the PN via the software. I've had one for over a year. I think it was money well spent. beaquel
If you like Garmin, try locating a nice model in their discontinued section that has the features you want, then hit up Craigslist. You can snag one super cheap that way from a guy upgrading to the latest and greatest model. Quote Link to comment
