Distance limit on notifications

I have just tried to extend the distance on my Event Notifications, but it keeps defaulting back to 80km from the coordinates.

 

Why is there a limit on this and why is it so low? If it was 500 or even 200, I could understand it, but 80 is not that far. I'm trying to change it because I missed yet another notification of an upcoming event, which is a little less that 100km away, and only saw it by chance.

I don't know the "why" part, but you can always set up a new notification with different coordinates.

I think it's mostly for performance reasons.

 

But as Motorcycle_Mama said, you can just create multiple notifications and cover a larger region that way.

 

I've set up notifications for event for the entire country (among others) that way.
