+rogbarn
I just found a marker that was 6 to 8 inches under soil, small rocks and other various type of debris near the bottom of an embankment. It took some digging since I wasn't sure exactly where it was, but, as it turned out, I was pretty close. How much digging as anyone else had to do to uncover a marker that started out uncovered? +makaio
I've only had to dig for a benchmark once. It was alongside a country road which had (in the last 3-4 years) some home development. The benchmark was at the edge of one of the properties whose new sod was placed over the mark. There was a witness post which made the digging easy. Once I uncovered ("recovered") the mark, I gathered some baseball sized rocks/stones and created a small circled wall around the mark to prevent it from easily being covered back up. Here are some pics of it prior to the stoned being placed... http://www.leonardsoffroad.com/ngs/RD2740.html - Quote Link to comment
