+georgeandmary Posted May 15, 2002 Posted May 15, 2002 http://www.geocaching.com/mark/details.asp?PID=HS2356 This one says 'recoverd' in 1965.. does this mean they removed it and it's no longer there... I went looking for it and couldn't find it. george Remember: Half the people you meet are below average. Quote
+Klemmer Posted May 15, 2002 Posted May 15, 2002 "Recovered" just means they found it, and maybe improved the description, possibly the Lat/Long coords (?) if better equipment available. If you find it, you "Recover" it! On the US GS website (some months ago), they even solicited reports from ordinary civilians (boy, could they get a bunch this way!) Quote
Jeremy Posted May 15, 2002 Posted May 15, 2002 From casual observation it seems that whent the NGS mounts a benchmark, it's there until it ain't. Document it and forget about it. Jeremy Jeremy Irish Groundspeak - The Language of Location Quote

+infosponge Posted May 28, 2002 Posted May 28, 2002 When the marker is missing or damaged, they may "re-set" it, i.e. replace it. It may or may not be in the exact same place. At least this is my theory based on reading a lot of data sheets. Quote

I've seen some go both ways. Also, sometimes they have reused the same marker, sometimes not. Quote
