80valley
What program is good to use to change a track to a route? Thanks Quote Link to comment
+EScout
Your track is made from a GPSr as you travel/hike. You typically save this so that you can view it in your GPSr, use the "backtrack" function, or export the track file to use on your computer in a map or geotagging program. Most GPSr units have a function to convert the track to a route that you can use the route in the field. Quote Link to comment
+Redwoods Mtn Biker
It is difficult to do this sort of conversion. A track can have thousands of points, whereas a route may only have a few. What model GPS receiver do you have and where are you wanting to use these tracks (trail or highway?)? Quote Link to comment
Grasscatcher
Try Topografix Expert GPS.... It's so difficult that the user has to select a track, then "right click" and choose "convert to track". That makes every trackpoint into a route point. In reality, the user needs to first "simplify" the track (reduce the number of trackpoints) down to the desired number of preferred route points, THEN do the above "convert to route". How much/how many times you "simplify" and down to how many points is totally up to you. The whole process takes less than 30 sec......... Quote Link to comment
robertlipe
GPSBabel can do this via filters, but it does require you to know what limits the consumer of the route imposes, as Rich describes. http://www.gpsbabel.org/htmldoc-developmen..._transform.html http://www.gpsbabel.org/htmldoc-developmen...r_simplify.html Both are exposed in the new GUI in the beta version.
