+geodarts
We want to place a Earth Cache next year but don't know what to center it around. Got any ideas? Something geological. Something other than a piece of cut rock with a plaque attached that was moved to the site by humans (been there). See if there is a book or website on local geology and take it from there. Or there may be a local teacher who could point you to some interesting spots. Or a park may have a pamphlet, interpretive sign, or a ranger with knowledge of geology. +catsnfish
I would suggest the Saugatuck Dunes. Quote Link to comment
+TerryDad2
I knew I forgot something over the weekend. I didn't reasearch what EarthCaches already exist, so forgive me if I repeat one that already exists. I'm also don't have the geography of your state down, so some of these locations might be too far for you. Here are a few websites to see if you can get some locations. http://www.exploringthenorth.com/rocks/collect.html You could see if there is an area to find your state stone http://www.petoskeystonefestival.com/ A link to a google map of fossil locations in the state is at the bottom of the page http://www.michrocks.org/other/special.shtml I'm not sure what is in the area or how you would get questions but this is an option http://www.mlive.com/news/grand-rapids/ind...ions_story.html Spending a few bucks and you can get field guides with locations and decriptions from http://www.mbgs.org/guidebooks.html Sand Dunes http://www.deq.state.mi.us/documents/deq-g...nddune-PA07.pdf Geologic map of the state http://www.michigan.gov/deq/0,1607,7-135-3...8607---,00.html http://geology.about.com/library/bl/maps/blmichiganmap.htm http://www.deq.state.mi.us/documents/deq-ogs-gimdl-MAPS.pdf Find some of the formation names in your area then do google searches on the rock formation names to see if any local exposures come up Copper road trips http://www.exploringthenorth.com/coppertrips/map.html Other Ideas, Detroit Salt Mine Ice Age Trail, http://www.iceagetrail.org/articles.htm Quote Link to comment

Dose anybody know of any cool thing we could do about the lake dunes or even potosky stones. We don't know about the potosky stones, but do you have any large (really large) boulders sitting all by themselves out in some field? We don't have any but I believe they are called erratics? Do a hide and seek search with the keyword erratic and maybe that will give you some ideas. Edited January 3, 2010 by Konnarock Kid & Marge Quote Link to comment
Wintertime
I would suggest the Saugatuck Dunes. You have to have a license to hide Geocaches hear. We looked into it and it was tooo much work. Are you sure those rules apply to Earthcaches, which don't involve hiding anything? Patty Quote Link to comment

+cachensfun
We went to Earthcache.org and they said that there is a new submission setup a GC.com . Where is that at? Quote Link to comment
+Jeep_Dog
We went to Earthcache.org and they said that there is a new submission setup a GC.com . Where is that at? Temporary hold, as earthcache submissions are being included into the submission form as found on GC.COM; it is due out with the next big release, which is "any day now."
