VWDave
Just got my Colorado and have all the updated software fiirmware etc. When I lug the USB cord into the unit, already plugged into the PC or reverse order. The unit's screen goes to a pic of a PC hooked to a GPS. Unplug it and the unit powers down. I plugged in a universal car power adapter and the same thing. Is this normal? Quote Link to comment
Red90
Yes. It is putting it into mass transfer mode. After the unit has gone through the process, the unit will show as a drive on the computer. If you want it to stay in GPS mode, change the interface settings to "spanner" and it will ask you when you connect the cable for GPS or mass transfer modes. Quote Link to comment
VWDave
Thanks for the fast answer. That did the trick. I had already thought I got to good of a deal and maybe got a bad unit. Must have missed that scanning over the manual. Like the unit so far, only complaint is backlight. But I knew that before buying. Quote Link to comment
webscouter.
If you buy the Garmin car adapter you won't have to put it in Spanner mode, it will know that you have it plugged into the car. Something about a couple of the internal cables not being uses. Quote Link to comment

Tequila
Garmin's manuals are notoriously terrible. Check out the Colorado wiki page for tons of help. http://garmincolorado.wikispaces.com/ Quote Link to comment
