Puppy Dawg
So I have a pic saved in a file...how do I use html to put it on a cachepage. Quote Link to comment
mrbort
The easiest way would be to put it up somewhere like flickr or photobucket and then use the link that they provide to link on the cache page. Quote Link to comment
Puppy Dawg
I can't because they resize it and this can't be resized. Quote Link to comment
mrbort
I can't because they resize it and this can't be resized. Do you mean they change the aspect ratio or they change the resolution or both? If you know anyone who has web space, you can put the actual file onto their server. I don't know of specific image hosters who host images without size limitations but you could also set up your own server using Opera Unite. Those are the only ideas I have If you're putting up a picture the size of which would be too large to host on somewhere like Photobucket, you might want to rethink the fact that everyone who loads your cache page will have to load the same massive amount of data, consequently making the experience of loading your cache time consuming for some... +mrbort
Addition: I found that the image limit for Photobucket is: For Free accounts, the limits are: * Images - 1MB each or 1024x768 resolution But they don't seem to change the aspect ratio because I uploaded some funny-shaped photos that were far greater than the 1mb limit and they changed the size but not aspect ratio. Again, loading a photo greater than 1mb every time you load a cache page might be tough anyway.... Regardless, good luck! Quote Link to comment
fegan
I can't because they resize it and this can't be resized. What size (resolution) is the image? Quote Link to comment
Puppy Dawg
Small. Resizing, changing the format, cropping, any slight alterations destroy the cache and its puzzle. http://mozaiq.org/encrypt/ You have to put in a pic, type in something random to hide, but then you'll see why. Ahh clever! In this case you'll probably want to find someone who has web space and can serve the image directly. Alternatively, I think that there are several free hosting possibilities where you can get your own space and host the photo there. Finally, if you have your own constant internet connection (and computer is always on) you can run the Opera Unite server directly from your PC. Quote Link to comment
Knight2000
http://bayimg.com/ They have no limit on size. (well, 100mb) Edited August 4, 2009 by Knight2000 Quote Link to comment
mtn-man
Since the file size can only be 128 kb maximum on that web site, you should not have a huge issue uploading the picture here. This web site says this for images: If your original image is under 125k or 600 pixels wide, the largest image will not be resized. Just keep it down to less than 120 kb or so. I've uploaded pictures larger than 600 pixels wide before. If they are larger than that on the cache page description, people have to scroll anyway. That is something of a pain in the neck. +BBWolf+3Pigs
Upload the picture to the cache listing. After it is uploaded, click on the image, so it loads as the only item in your browser. Copy the URL that is in the address bar (it'll contain a long string of characters and letters). No, go to the cache listing and edit it. Make sure the "Descriptions below are in html" is checked. At the location where you want the image to appear, add: <img src="(paste the URL you copied here)"> (do not add the parenthesis!) After the quote but before the final ">" you can add the following tags with spaces between: align=left or align=right - aligns the image to the left or right edge vspace=# and/or hspace=# - adds the specified number of pixels around the image as white space. This cache of mine has two inline images, and I use all of the tags above. Do a "view source" in your browser to see the HTML. knowschad
If at all possible, please upload the image to either your cache page or another, perhaps archived, cache page of yours. The problem with using sites like Photobucket is that if your account there ever goes away, it results in a broken image link on your cache page. If you reference a picture that has been uploaded to geocaching.com, that picture will be there as long as geocaching.com is here. Quote Link to comment
Knight2000
I'm sorry. I thought this image was large. I believe if you upload the picture to a reviewer note before the cache is published it will not show up in the list of gallery images. This does not work for regular notes as my personal gallery can show you. Quote Link to comment
Puppy Dawg
Uploading to a cachepage changes it to a JPEG, thus destroying the coords out of the image. It has to remain PNG. 'll go with Knight2Ks first suggestion. Edited August 7, 2009 by GeoBigDawg Quote Link to comment
Puppy Dawg
Another update - is there a site that will allow it to remain a PNG? Quote Link to comment
Steve&GeoCarolyn
Another update - is there a site that will allow it to remain a PNG? You can open a free Wordpress blog account and use the media library to upload your png. They accept pngs and do not modify them. Carolyn Quote Link to comment
Puppy Dawg
No, that resized it. I need it to stay totally unaltered. Quote Link to comment

mrbort
No, that resized it. I need it to stay totally unaltered. Did you look into free web hosting? You might be able to host your own photos directly from the server... Not totally sure though. Quote Link to comment
bittsen
If you need the image hosted, unaltered, I can host it for you. I have had a server up and running for 4 years and don't see it going anywhere for a few more. Just let me know. Quote Link to comment
