+TheRedArmy Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 i'm thinking about placing my own cache and was wondering what if i need to AVERAGE the spot first. if so, on the Legend HCX, you can average a waypoint, but how long do i let it zero in on it. there is a counter, but i have no idea how long i should let it calculate. thanks Quote
+BlueDeuce Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 I just take a couple few readings and test which one is closest. Quote
+Knight2000 Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 I would get to a spot and let it sit for a minute. Walk away and do this a few times. Here is better info on averaging. Quote
+geojibby Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 That is a good link. Keystone's commentary on waypoint averaging is bang on. Basically with my GPSMAP 60CX unit, I let it average the spot until estimated accuracy is as close to 2m/8 feet as possible. If I have a nice day with lots of birds overhead, I usually get it to 2.1/2.5m. But if it's a crappy day, you don't do as well. General guideline is, the longer you wait, the better it is. I would get to a spot and let it sit for a minute. Walk away and do this a few times. Here is better info on averaging. Quote
