New to Geocaching

Hi,

I am new to this game. Seems like a bit of a good way to get some exercise, find out about what others find interesting, and of local features and history.

I signed up two days ago, and so far, have had two finds, and three not found.

Is it permitted to create a "cache" that has no contents, and for the "cache" to be either an object with its "cache id" written on it, and a password (used to verify the find). Could the cache be: a key? a laminated card like a business card? or a strip of metal?

I like the idea of putting a key somewhere, and engraving it with its id, and password.

A cache should, at a minimum, have a log for finders to sign. For a multi-cache, almost anything could be used as a preliminary stage for the final cache, but the final must have a log. I have found multi cache where the first stage was just a set of coordinates painted on a rock.

Check out Earth Caches, they are somewhat like what you are asking.

I'll second reading the guidelines - I mean REALLY reading them and understanding them before you attempt to hide a cache.

But to answer your question directly: No - A cache must have at a minimum, a logsheet of some kind. Keyword (password) caches have not been allowed for some years.

I am certain you can be creative enough to disguise a container in plain sight!!
