+Chaircity
I just received a eTrex Legend as a gift. Has anyone had any experience with this one as far as geocacaching? How well does it do etc. Pros, cons etc. Thanks Sorry about the double post. Edited January 13, 2009 by Chaircity Quote Link to comment
+Timpat
We started caching with the Legend Blue and found our first several hundred with it. It's a great mapping unit to cut your teeth. We still carry it in the geopack as backup now having a 60Cx and CO 300. Quote Link to comment
Neos2
Same here. We used the blue guys to find our first 600 or so caches and then graduated to 60CSx units. We never did buy additional maps for the Legends, and got by OK with just the base maps and good eyeballing of the maps on the cache pages. We kept the Legends and I use them with my science classes or for guests who cache with us. The Legend is admittedly outdated technology now, especially with regard to way it will lose a signal in deep woods --but there are workaround that help (obviously, since we did find those caches) and they are sturdy, lightweight, and easy to use. Of course, I do prefer the 60 CSx for it's high sensitivity, and the SD card that add the ability to hold many more maps, and the electronic compass, and all the other bells and whistles... But I have to say --Any gps will get you to the cache, some just do it more quickly or with more elegance. Quote Link to comment
+PDOP's
Be sure to update the firmware on the Legend. There were some problems when WAAS is enabled that result in a vertical line on a blank screen . Quote Link to comment
+TrailGators
The Legend was my first GPS and I used it for two years. It can be tricky to use in heavy tree cover but it works if you finds clearings and project the arrow to the cache. Quote Link to comment
yougogirl64
I think the Blue Legend is a great entry level unit. Other than the tree coverage issue, I have not had any other problems with my unit. Quote Link to comment
