+fantasiynomrah
Are there any pda's out there (under $50) that I could use fairly easily for paperless caching? I'm really not sure what to look for since I've never owned one before. I've seen a couple on ebay, but I don't know if any pda will work, or if I need to look for something specific because not all would support paperless caching. I hope I made sense.... ~ynomrah~ Quote Link to comment
+BCandMsKitty
Any PDA that you can connect to a computer, or connect wirelessly will work. Some, obviously, will work better than others. One thing you should keep in mind is that some of the older units (like mine) connect via a serial cable, and not USB. If you use a laptop, for instance, you might have problems connecting to you computer. I use an old PalmV. Black and white screen, and it can't accept or display images, but it keeps all the cache page info for me including the last 5 logs. The only time I have trouble is if there is an image on the cache page that is actually part of the info needed to hunt the cache, as in some of the puzzle caches. I find I have to re-calibrate the stylus every week or two, but that's just a matter of a few seconds. I use a program called Cachemate to convert the pocket queries from Geocaching.com into "Palm Speak", and as clunky as the old relic is, it works just fine! +vwaldoguy
I use a Palm m125. It's black and white as well, and has 8mb of onboard memory. Certainly more than enough to run a Cachemate database. You can get these on Ebay for $25 in some cases. If you want color, an m130 would be OK. Newer models like the Z22/Z31 are a bit more pricey, and probably overkill if all you want to do is run some type of cache database. Edited October 23, 2008 by vwaldoguy Quote Link to comment

jholly
pdaparts.com has cheap m125's and m500's. Some times you can find cheap pda's on gizmos2go.com. Color is okay, but I find that they are hard to read outside. The gray LCD's don't wash out in the sun. Why can't they make a pda with color screen like on my 76csx? Jim Quote Link to comment
+SUp3rFM & Cruella
From my experience, a PDA like an old IPAQ (with Windows PPC 2003) is a great choice. You can find some at the e-place. Edited October 23, 2008 by SUp3rFM & Cruella Quote Link to comment
