  1. Maine seems to be getting involved as well. Just noticed this one today: http://www.geocaching.com/adventures/geotours/maine-state-parks Having a chance to win a canoe for getting all 8 stamps is appealing.
  2. Thank you. The info is much appreciated! ~ynomrah~
  3. I was reading a newspaper at work and saw an article about geocaching. It looked interesting, so I saved the article. I registered on the site and thought that this might be a fun thing to try. Then I forgot about it. For 15 months! I checked an older email account and saw a message from Groundspeak and remembered the article. My husband was gone to basic, so I figured this might give me something to do while he was gone. One was around the corner from where I worked, so I went and found that one, and a couple more nearby. It was GREAT!! After a week or so hunting without a gps, I talked to my husband and bought the cheapest one I could find a Walmart...a Magellan eXplorist 200. I've been a cacher since. ~ynomrah~
  4. Are there any pda's out there (under $50) that I could use fairly easily for paperless caching? I'm really not sure what to look for since I've never owned one before. I've seen a couple on ebay, but I don't know if any pda will work, or if I need to look for something specific because not all would support paperless caching. I hope I made sense.... ~ynomrah~
  5. ...you go to a new place, and the first thing you think is, "This would be a great place to hide a cache!"
  6. umm...I don't think I wrote the coords down right.... Any muggles? No? Okay, let's go! The cache is right in these bushes. Hey, there is a new cache I want to check out.
  7. One other bit of info that I got when I first started that has helped me in hunting (especially with the older gps units): Give the coordinates about 20' of leeway, especially in dense cover. So if your gps is 20' off and the hider's gps was 20' off, you have a 40' radius of search from ground zero. If you are still having issues, walk about 50-100' away and come back in. That may give you a better idea of where to zero in. Also, stop, close your eyes, and take a deep breath. When you open them, don't start searching, just look. I've lost count of how many times I have done that, and the hiding spot just jumped right out at me. Most of all, just have fun. If you don't find it, just take in the surroundings and enjoy just being outside. ~ynomrah~
  8. Check down further in the list of forums and you'll find regions which will have your local area. Also, you could find out what local geocaching clubs are around you and join that (I know Florida has at least one, not sure what the name or where to find though). Welcome to caching! The best way I have found to find the local clubs is to check the pages of caches near your home (your town and surrounding towns). Good chance that _someone_ is part of a local group, and they tend to put their club banners on their cache pages. Then just click on the banners.
  9. Corrections Officer for a little small town county jail. Work overnights, so plenty of daylight hours to go caching after work. Though, with the amount of stress I deal with, I almost wish I was back flipping burgers. And I do not have any goats, but a friend of mine does. Is that close enough.
  10. Sorry I'm late, but mine's there now, too.
