+queezy
We are planning a trip to the Northwest. We were considering trying to find the first cache, which I'm told is in the Portland, Ore. area. Could someone give me an idea and "GC" description and what we may be getting ourselves into? +StarBrand
The actual cache is long since gone (it was actually buried in the ground) but there is a plaque near the location that is some form of a cache (probably a virtual). Quote Link to comment
+trainlove
Go to a searc hpage. Click on Search By STate. Enter that state. Go to the last page of the results shown. Look for the geocache with the smallest GC name. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtins. That's the oldest existing cache in that state. Oregon would be GC12, but Washington has GCD. Or search by waypoint and try GC1, GC2, ... Hexadecimal at first then not hexadecimal when GCFFFF happened. Quote Link to comment

+StarBrand
If your Journey goes through Kansas you can visit the oldest cache that is still up and running and out there to be found. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...e7-1f9216caae07 Quote Link to comment

And I'm sure that there might be others that are numerically still older still and still active. Edited September 24, 2008 by trainlove Quote Link to comment

Actually - really early on - the GC numbers were handed out by state and not in the same base 30 numeric order that they are today. Fizzymagic wrote it up some time ago - I'll find it...... +Sandy Hams
The original cache is in the Estacada, Oregon area (SE of Portland). A search on zip code 97023 will get it for you. The GC number is GCGV0P Original Stash Tribute Plaque also check out the Un-original Stash GC92. Also in the area are several of the very first caches -- GC12 and and GC17. Quote Link to comment
