+KernewesLaura Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 All you that are involved in the Commando Challenge - just what are you doing in terms of training?! I've never done anything like this in my life! I'm supposed to be young and healthy, but i get out of breath just thinking about it!!! Any tips?!!!
+keehotee Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 (edited) The following might help you prepare:- 1. Don't walk around puddles - instead roll through them, do press ups in them, or just lie on your back in them. 2. If you're after a cache in a particularly muddy area keep your boots clean by crawling to the cache on all fours. After every 50 metres stop, drop, and roll over before carrying on. 3. If you need to cross a road and there are no crossings about, help to keep accident statistics down by looking for the closest drain conduit to crawl through. 4. Encourage your friends to scream and shout mercilessly at you instead of talking in a friendly manner. 5. For relaxation take a half mile walk along the beach - in the sea up to your waist - fully clothed. 6. Get drunk as often as possible - the mornings after are probably the closest you will get to the feelings you'll be experiencing half way around the course when you realise the muddiest bits are still to come..... With regards to number 2...um...take a look at this picture of me whimping out over a marginal bit of mud..... I've got no chance!
+FollowMeChaps Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 Now can you please explain the concept of 'training'? I've just looked the word up and it suggests "the activity of imparting and acquiring skills". Having just re-checked the Commando Challenge website I can confirm that its aim is to 1. raise money for charity and 2. have fun getting muddy - my précis not theirs. Perhaps some training in the art of screwing others to sponsor me is fair enough, but for my part I specialised in 2 as a child - ergo NO TRAINING REQUIRED AT ALL!
+KernewesLaura Posted April 21, 2008 Author Posted April 21, 2008 Training to ensure we all get past the finish line! If we don't finish,we don't raise any money!! And we can't have that can we?!!!
+davy boy Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 Remember the showers Tim which only run VERY cold water after the course and the skips full of used clothes!!! That reminds me i need to wash the boiler suit i used last yr hehe....

Aaaaaah no..... you collect the money before you do the Challenge - you have to hand it in when you register. If you don't finish, the Challenge is to train you to avoid all the sponsors when they come running after you......... Forgot about the lovely showers. 7. Next time it rains, leave your coat at home......
