+Totem Clan Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 One of the new caches the local state parks wants is a night cache that can also be done during the day. In the main camping ground there is an amphitheater that is used for evening nature talks and such. One of the programs they run takes folks on a rambling hike around the outside of the campground. They would like a multi cache that would follow roughly the same route. That's easy enough. Fire takes and bison tubes with directions leading from point to point taking you to the final point and the cache. Now how would I make this a good day cache as well for cachers the aren't camping there. The gates to the campground close at 10:30 PM and only campers with a permit can enter until 7:00 AM. What could I use for day and night trail markers. I don't want it to be detectable by all the muggle campers in the area so it needs to be concealed but be visible. Any help would be great. Quote
+JacobBarlow Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 There was one here in Utah that was a night cache, meaning you followed reflectors with a light, but he also had the final cache coordinates posted on the page for those who didn't want to do it as a night cache. Quote
+The Jester Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 Yeah, co-ords for the bison tubes could work. Quote
+lacazg Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 I am not sure if I totally understand the question. But, could the bison tubes for the day cache be one color and the night cache bison tubes could be another color? But maybe I totally misunderstood the question. Quote

I'm currently right in the middle of putting a fairly unique one together that could fit your bill but it's success is dependent on variation of terrain and few other things being available to you on your hunt. I'd be happy to share the idea with you via private email as I don't want to blow it while it is still in progress. Shoot me a note at TeamGeoBlast@hotmail.com Quote
+huskerrich2000 Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 how about a picto-cache by day, that way muggles who want to participate can pickup cache sheets at the ranger station. Quote

But, could the bison tubes for the day cache be one color and the night cache bison tubes could be another color? But maybe I totally misunderstood the question. There will only be one set of points. It will be just one multi cache. They want it to be a night cache that you would need flashlight to complete using Fire Tacks. However because the campground is closed at night only people camping there could complete it at night, at least in the summer. So I need to come up with the best way to make it a day and night cache. All the muggles in the campground itself will mean the point markers need to be almost invisible by day. I have a couple of ideas that might work, but I was hoping for some other suggestions. Quote
+lacazg Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 I guess it makes much more sense when you know what Fire Tacks are. I looked it up and I think it is a really cool idea. I might have to buy some of the stealth Fire Tacks. Quote
+FamilyDNA Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 I would probably do a regular multi with your bison tubes: each one contains the coordinates for the next, then also mark each spot with a firetack for night caching. I think a couple of local cachers have managed to do a nearby night cache in the daytime. They had some method for finding reflectors in the light, but I'm not sure what they used. Quote
