County lines on google maps

Recommended Posts

Yahoo maps have the county lines on the maps. Nice if your doing county challenges. Is there any way to get google maps to show county lines?

TIA,

Jim

Google Earth will show county lines if the borders layer is checked. I don't think you can get the same features with the web based google maps.

You can enable boundaries on Google Earth, which will give you county boundaries. Google maps on the cache page, I don't think you can.

If you're a GSAK user, there's a macro found on the GSAK forums macro library, County.gsk. It names the county for any cache - with some occasional accuracy problems along the coasts and large lakes, where it fails to extend county boundaries over water.

Thanks all. I asked about google maps because that is what the caches are displayed on. In doing county challenges I would be nice to know which county the cache is in before clicking download GPX. The GSAK county macro is after the fact.

Thanks!

You can display them on Goggle Earth also. And then go to the webpage that is linked to the Waypoint to download the data....

Just Download Geocache browser for Google Earth from your account page.

I used Google Earth to find caches in all CA's 58 counties. Just export the .gpx from GSAK to Google Earth (there are even 1-button macros out there to help automate this).

Wow I am so surprised when I saw this. While Cali as big as it is has 58 counties. Alabama has 67. I guess cali counties might be just a tad bigger. This probably makes it hard for most counties in a day challenge in California.
