  1. I liked geocaching more when I never visited the forums and found out how so many people want to ruin a otherwise fun hobby, I guess the only reason I come to these forums is I'm sadistic. +1
  2. Would it he possible to have your phone vibrate when you are with XX number of feet of a cache? Today i was visiting a town on vacation. While walking down the sidewalk I pulled up the gc app to see if any caches were around. There was one 10 feet away that I almost missed. It would also be nice if the "Nearest cache list" automatically resorted the top 30 when other caches become closer.
  3. Just got an iPhone and have been able to use the app quite a bit over the past few days. One thing that would be super helpful is if the distance to number were 2 decimal points. For instance, rather than 0.2 miles showing on the last set of pictures in the link below, it said 0.23 miles. My compass was bouncing around a bit today and it would have been helpful to know if I was getting closer or further away. Thanks! http://www.geocaching.com/iphone/
  4. I have the GC app. I've created a pocket query and downloaded it. When I go to click on "SAVE FOR OFFLINE USE" I have 3 map options : 1) N/A (Google Maps) 2) Topo Maps and 3) N/A (Google Maps). Only the Topo Map will allow me to turn it on. Is it possible to download the Google Map option? What else should I try? Thanks!
  5. I really liked the Neongeo app on Android. I'm switching to an iPhone and will definitely miss it.
  6. I bought my 70 year old dad a garmin 60cs. This is too difficult for him to handle on his own. I thought it was pretty basic, but he just can't get it. Anytime he goes out caching without me I get a phone call because he's hit some button by accident. Another difficulty with this is, there is no way he could handle the 60cs and a pda. To get around that, I download 10-15 caches. Tell him the general location (ie. Go to local mall). Then I print out the description and relevant info for him in a word document. This is EXTREMELY time consuming for me. Is there a VERY BASIC gps that has paperless caching functionality? I'm thinking a kids gps that can hold 50 caches and the details to it. Doesn't need any fancy maps, or odometers, and all that stuff. I'd appreciate your help!
  7. A little late to the party, but I was looking for the same thing and found this. Maybe it will help others. http://www.gelib.com/us-counties.htm
  8. Completely agree. Micros are too hard. Lamp poles are too easy. Logs are less than 27.3 characters. Geez.
  9. Nice whining. You're obviously a champ! Did I step on your toes too hard?
  10. Some of the whiniest people I have ever met are geocachers. DAM*, if you don't want to see challenges, turn them off on your map when they get enabled. If you don't want them to count in YOUR total....DON'T SEARCH FOR THEM!!! Geocaching is like doing your taxes. Any of us can cheat if we want and your probably not going to get caught. But your only hurting yourself. I can go thru and log traditional caches all day long if I want. I can log a find in China, BFE Mississippi, India, and South Africa all in the same day if I want and there's nothing any of you can do about it. It's falsely inflating my numbers just like lying about a challenge. Also to the moaners and *itchers, why do you can about other people's number?? I don't care how many finds other folks have. I'm only worried about mine. I know I haven't cheated on any. I don't care if someone does or doesn't believe me. I have nothing to prove. I don't care if XXXXX user has 3000 finds and they are all virtuals or challenges or whatever. WHO CARES?!?!?!? All I'm worried about is finding time to go out this weekend. Some of you people take this GAME waaaaaayyyyy too seriously. It's fun, it's something to do, and it gets me out of the house and gets me some exercise. But again, its a GAME...why do I care if someone else cheats. I'm not getting anything for 1000 finds.
  11. While this is likely a matter of semantics, I feel compelled to point out that there is a difference in the two agendas being presented here. Both agendas are promoting cancer awareness, which is where they are similar. Where they differ is the platform. You want to utilize a signature item, AKA: swag, to get your message across. This is perfectly acceptable according to the guidelines. BCurry wants to utilize a cache page as his platform, which, according to the guidelines he claimed to have read prior to submitting the cache for publication, is not acceptable. You want to play by the rules.BCurry? Maybe not so much.
  12. Flintstone...nice to see that not everyone is a uptight grump. LOL...denied cache and I'm a universal outcast. Been a bad day I guess.
  13. That's mature.... Actually, its called sarcasm. Which is universally accepted as an indicator of immaturity. Especially when directed at a reasoned response geared toward helping you with a problem. Wow, universally accepted. That's broad. Encompasses a lot.
  14. That's mature.... Actually, its called sarcasm.
  15. Ok, thanks! I'll replace them with film canisters in lightpoles.
  16. I started a mystery cache series where seekers had to answer questions about cancer (survival rates, etc) the reviewer denied it because he said I had an agenda and caching is suppose to be fun. I don't think I have an agenda, but I do have a purpose for the series - cancer awareness!! I disagree with the decision. This series is educational and hopefully will provide valuable info. Here is some text from one of my caches. Is there any chance of gettin this approved. I'm frustrated. Gc.com needs a competitor. They've gotten quite arrogant. Pancreatic cancer has one of the highest fatality rates of all cancers, and is the 4th highest cancer killer in the U.S. and internationally among both men and women. It is sometimes called a "silent killer" because early pancreatic cancer often does not cause symptoms, and the later symptoms are usually nonspecific and varied. Therefore, pancreatic cancer is often not diagnosed until it is advanced or has metastases to other areas. Most patients with pancreatic cancer experience pain, weight loss, or jaundice. Cigarette smoking and improper gum and mouth care are two hypostasized causes of pancreatic cancer. Famous people who have been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer: Steve Jobs - Founder of Apple Michael Landon Patrick Swayze Gene Upshaw - NFL
  17. Anyone have some pics of a telephone pole hid that doesn't stand out? Thanks!
  18. Can't find another topic, but I'm sure it's been asked. Is it possible for my dad and I to share the GSAK program on my computer? I log all of my dad's caches online and keep up with it all for him. It would be great to flip back and forth between databases if possible. Thanks!
  19. I would like to get a program to view google maps (or similar) offline to help save on data usage on my phone. My phone is an HTC Aria Android and I use GeoHunter as my caching program. If I understand correctly, the new Google Maps 5.0 allows for offline map viewing but I haven't seen a way for me to select a location to download. (ie - download a map section of the beach for vacation caching). I've read where Locust is an option, but I'm not sure if that's the best option for what I'm looking for. Will geohunter automatically connect to the offline map files when I do make a decision? Any thoughts or ideas as to what I should try out? Thanks.
  20. I have one I dropped in Central Park 3 years ago today. It's been 16,775 miles. It's been to: Sweden, Finland, Latvia, Japan, and the Czech Republic.
  21. : I use the StatsGen macro for my profie and love it. There's one thing I would like to add to it, and was wondering if it existed or how I'd perhaps try to go about building it. I want a list of all the states I've cached in. Then under each of those headers, I'd like to have The number of counties in each state and how many counties I've had a find and then a %. I'd also like for it to list my top 10 counties. This is what I'm looking for: Tennessee Counties with finds - State Counties % 20 100 20% Alabama Counties with finds - State Counties % 20 50 40% Top 10 Counties Rutherford, TN - 200 Davidson, TN - 100 Tuscaloosa - AL - 50 The only thread I can find with any simliarities is this one: County Thread
  22. Well, just for you, I tried it out for the first time. Mine went through successfully. Under "Phone identifier", enter the full identifier, including "TM#". Under "Phone PIN", enter the 4 letter password in the SMS. Perfect - Thanks!! I got it. I wasn't including the "TM#". Merry Christmas!
  23. I'm trying to set my Droid up so that I can send a text message to log a find. I followed these directions: SMS Texts as Logs I received my phone identifer and pin thru a text message on my phone. When I go to the GC.com website and enter them in the section that step #5 describes, I get an error message that says "No account was found with the information provided." Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!!!
