RzrSxS
If you Google "Garmin topo usa 2008" up pops a bunch of sites using the word 'torrent' in its address and (apparently) one heck of a lot of activity surrounding this product. What is this all about? (thanks). Quote Link to comment
Motorcycle_Mama
Sounds like a violation of the software license. Quote Link to comment
Baumer
Torrents are a means to share large files over the internet, The basic premise is that instead of downloading large files from a single source, you download many pieces of the file from many different sources. It is a peer to peer system, meaning users share files amongst each other, their is no central location where files are stored. A torrent is really just a way to connect all these people together. Torrent sites, such as www.piratebay.org which has been in the news lately, are nothing more than directories and search engines for these groups of people sharing files amongst themselves. They operate in a very grey area of copyright law. It is a haven for illegal pirated software. All current Garmin software products are available with working cracks to get around all copy protection. Up until a few years ago, Magellan and Garmin avoided the attention of the warez scene, but GPS is too mainstream now. It is discouraging to pay top dollar for software and know others aren't doing the same. Quote Link to comment
+fratermus
Bittorrent is a file-sharing protocol. It can technically be used to share whatever legal or illegal information the users wish. It would be illegal to share copyrighted software like Garmin topo. Since topo is unlocked, if money is tight it is possible to buy used copies of Topo products in the garage sale, eBay, etc. Quote Link to comment
