Info requests to www.geocaching.com

I use my hipster PDA when I go geocaching. Basically, I create index cards for each cache I intend to visit. I have a somewhat automated way of generating these cards in TiddlyWiki, but I still enter some items by hand.

Is there a way to request data about caches? For example, can I somehow pass geocaching.com a request to send me, say, the cache size of waypoint GCXXXX? The data I would like to get is:

pass GCXXXX and get:

cache type: regular, multi, etc

cache size

difficulty and terrain

Lat/Lon

Become a Premium Member and use the Pocket Query option...

If there is another way...other will state it...

Pocket Queries:

The Pocket Query Generator allows you to create custom geocache queries and have them emailed to you on a daily or weekly basis. You can also run these queries on the "seek a cache" page as a customized search query. Check the supported software applications page for updates on existing and new software that can take advantage of Pocket Queries.

Pocket Queries are custom geocache queries you can have emailed to you on a daily or weekly basis. They are in a format you can bring along with you on cache hunts on your GPS and/or PDA. You can select a GPX or LOC text file that works with supported software applications. Because of the detailed queries, each search can run only once per day. You have up to 5 pocket queries run every 24 hour period.

Sounds complicated, I think I'll stick with using my husband's method for paper caching- cut and paste onto a blank word document and then print a few pages and go.

But that is only when new caches are posted. I'm a big fan of GPX files, GSAK and my PDA. Which has never run out of battery power in three years of caching with it. Once a week it goes on the charger and gets a update of caches.

You may be able to use GSAK to export a file that your Tiddly thing can import.

This is what I am doing now, but computers are supposed to make our lives easier. Why am I cutting and pasting when I just need the server to give me the info based on the waypoint?

BTW, my hipster PDA has never run out of batteries either :drama:

I htink what you need is some way to convert a gpx file so your pda will read it, since the PQ appears to have everything that you need. Since I'm not a tech guy and I am not familiar with your pda, I can't help you.

To understand more, see my link: http://trey.arthur.tiddlyspot.com/#WebTrip...cachingTiddlers

What I would like is to fill in the the GeoTiddler form automatically via the GC waypoint name. Right now, it looks like I would need to do a XML read on the GPX file and parse it for the data.

GeoTiddler? :drama:

Items added to your wiki are called tiddlers. A GeoTiddler is a tiddler for geocaching. I made up this term cause that is what I thought we were doing.

Yes, I always make it a point not to initially explain terms I've just made up. It's just one of the many twangalors I live by.

If you click on the trey.arthur.tiddly spot link above (which is before my made up GeoTiddler term), all will be revealed.
