kpal67
Has any body tried using this model? It is my old GPS nad Santa just upgraded me to a 60Cx. I thought if this one will still work I'd let the kids follow this while I follow them with the new one. Thanks for the input. Quote Link to comment
+PDOP's
It should still work fine. It's a 12 channel receiver so reception should be good. I believe it only supports six character waypoint names so you might have to use software that can drop the "GC" from the latest geocaches codes. +g-o-cashers
Found my first 300-400 caches with a GPS 12 and I still keep it for a backup. It doesn't have the maps but it'll do a pretty go job getting you to the cache. It doesn't do distances in feet only in 1/100ths of a mile so you only get within about 53' of a cache before you start to search. GO$Rs Quote Link to comment
vaq45
i had a "12" for 10 years and bought a vista hcx--tho i like the vista,i just sold my gps12 and miss it--altho it had no capabilities for maps-it was an all around simple and accurate unit-- Quote Link to comment
Forkeye
In my opinion the 12 series were the best case style Garmin has yet made, very rugged, using my GPS 12 I could go anywhere my 76CSX will take me,just had to know how to use a map and compass due to the lack of GPS maps, but it will work just fine for geocaching using its own map screen. +PDOP's
GSAK for one. See Special Tags %drop2 - allows you to generate waypoints similar to the GCXXXX ones but without the needless GC at the front. For example, the cache GCAF12 which is a large multi cache, could be generated with the tags of %con1%typ1%drop2 to yield LMAF12. All the other tags used in the description format are available (and vice versa), but whatever tags you use, the total length of the resulting waypoint will be chopped off at the setting for "Maximum characters".
