Displaying URLs imported from GSAK on Streets and Trips 2007

Ok, this is a weird one.

I use GSAK to import my html pages for my geocaches then of course the way points.

When I export the HTML pages, I use the default settings.

When I export my waypoints, I use the Streets and Trips menu and change the URL link to the xref.txt located where I put my HTML pages.

When I go into Streets and Trips, I import (using the Import Data Wizard) my waypoints. I then change the pushpin properties to display the URL in the bubble.

My problem is this: it will not open the local url (file://c:/etc...) at all. Won't even pop up IE.

I have one other bit of info that hopefully will help someone help me figure this out: When I export the waypoints, but use the default settings (where the URLs point straight to the official webpage) then do everything else the same, it works. I can Ctrl-Click on the pushpin or open it and simply click on the URL in the bubble.

I'm stumped here. Anyone have any ideas?

I use IE7 (though I did recently go back to IE6 on my laptop with the same problem) and I use Streets and Trips 2007.

Also, I have checked the pushpin properties and set the "Use Hyperlinks from your imported data" to URL.

One other bit of information: when manually creating a pushpin, I can type in any webpage I want and it'll work, but it won't work if I type anything with the file:// format, except for "file://" itself (and nothing else) which will take me straight to the "My computer" window, as it's suppose to.

Thanks in advance!

Well, looks like I sorta figured this out:

It seemed to work when I entered "\\\C:\Cache\%code.htm" in the URL Link portion of the Streets and Trips Export Wizard in GSAK.

I can't ctrl-click but I sure can open the balloon and click on the url! (After setting the pushpin properties to display the url in the balloon of course.)

Weird, but hey, it works now.

Thanks for posting with your solution. I've been keeping an eye on this since I would like to do the same thing with MapPoint. I suspected it was possible to link cache data to an offline database, but I had no idea how. I'm going to give your method a try.

If you have problems with my way, try file:///c:/cache... etc. That is the way it SHOULD have worked.

Well I got it to work. But it is weird.

When I generated the S&T export from GSAK, I clicked the xref.txt button below the URL field, and pointed it to the matching HTML database I keep for my PDA.

In the balloon, everything appears fine in the URL, except a space in the address, like a folder name, cuts off the URL link. For example I have:

file:///C:/Users/My Name/............. Like there it cuts off the blue link just after "My"

However, if I "CTRL + Click" on a cache (pushpin) it opens my default browser and up comes the offline cache page. Just the opposite of what you reported. :D:o

This is cool though, and since I already regularly export my caches to HTML files for the PDA, I get double duty out of maintaining the HTML cache databases. :)

I believe that's the way it is supposed to work if you chose xref in the URL field. I know it works this way for me using S&T2004. I use this setting on my laptop for when I don't have internet access.

To have Ctrl+Click open the online page I use the *Default setting in the URL field.

Try using dirctories without spaces in their name (ie: "MyName" instead of "My Name"). I had the same problem as you described and this fixed it for me (my problem directory was "My Documents")
