rocketmann
I just saw an advertisement on TV that actually used geocaching, something I had never seen before. It was for a regional restaurant chain called Runza. The ad started off with "we were out geocaching and got hungry so we went to Runza." Anyway since this is the first time I have ever seen geocaching in ads, I was wondering if anybody else has seen it before. Is this really a rare accurance as I think or is goecaching really all over the place? Share your stories and tell me what you think. Quote Link to comment
+carleenp
The story of how that ad came about is posted on the Nebraskache yahoo group. The short verison is that some local cachers entered a contest or something with the restaurant that included stating when they would eat there, or something like that (I don't remember the details) and they said when they were geocaching. Runza then asked them to do a commercial. So it is real cachers in the TV Ad. Quote Link to comment
+outdoorsaddix
Here in Canada the only thing i saw was in the Source by Circut City's flyer, when they were advertising GPS devices they specifically mentioned geocaching as the use and gave a small blurb explaining geocaching. Quote Link to comment
+larry739
There alot of geocachers in Omaha and that is where I have seen the most Runza restaurants. There was a tv show on the other day that featured geocaching in the plot. We cannot remember what it was though. Quote Link to comment
+Thrak
Well, not really commercial advertising but............ I went camping in the Plumas National Forest recently and I checked out the Plumas County web site. It had a spot where you could request info so I asked them to send me their tourist info guide. It arrived a few days later and was a glossy magazine type of deal. It had lots of ads for businesses, info on camping, etc. Half a page was devoted to info on geocaching in Plumas County. I was surprised to find that in there. They really pushed the caches as a great way to explore more of the area. I thought it was pretty cool. Quote Link to comment
