need advice on paperless caching

Recommended Posts

I bought a cheap PDA from ebay-PalmPilot 105 (I think the first generation of Palm).

After a lot of frustration and trying things I finally got caches to load on the PDA.

Here's my problem: only the cache name and coords came through. No log info, no hints, etc. (even when I use the drop down menu and select hints). The other thing is I have the list of cache names but when I hit the waypoint button it keeps the names up, no waypoints.

I am using cachemate and GSAK.

Any advice as to what I may be doing wrong?

Thanks!!

Yep, echoing what markandlynn said above, make sure you are using a GPX file as this contains all of the description and log data that GSAK uses to build the database and then export to Cachemate.

If you are using a PQ to get your data (if not, its worth it!) then check at the end that GPX is shown in the small "In the Format:" drop-down.

I just switched to the Palm for paperless and it took a while for me to really get a system that works for me, but i'm now there and its great.

Since you are a premium member, use the PQ system to download the waypoints. If you send the emails to a provider with POP3 access (such as Gmail/googlemail then you can download the PQ directly in GSAK without any messing around.

Then you can add buttons to the top bar to export to CacheMate.

Thank you!!! All the information was very helpful.

I now have another problem-I'm sure it is something I am doing wrong...

I'm trying to build a PQ and the results keep coming back with no results.

Any thoughts as to what I might be doing wrong?

You are interrogating a database so you have probably entered a combination of options that results in a nil return (like asking for all the ones that you have not found and all the ones that you have - at the same time, this is a nil return)

Use the preview option when working out your PQ - then you can check the output before you commit

Like the OP, I have spent a frustrating couple of days trying to go paperless.

Also like the OP, we can see the cache name, waypoint name and the Lat/Long co-ords on the PPC - no logs, no hints etc.

I will try the suggestion of using GPX files instead of LOC files if I can work out how to do it.

My specific question is - Is there any way of getting the OS grid references to display?

We are using cachemate, GSAK and a Pocket PC (iPAQ).
