+SnS
I have a friends Gold here to try to resurect it but having no luck. When the power button is pressed it beeps and the screen flashes blue but then nothing. If you keep holding the power button the backlight comes on. Any ideas or should I tell him to start looking for a new unit? Thanks Quote Link to comment
moonpup
Does the unit have a reset procedure? I know what they are for Garmins, but can't help with the Magellan. Google for a reset procedure on that unit, and give that a try. UPDATE - try this... (press & hold Nav and Pwr simultaneously). Edited April 26, 2007 by moonpup Quote Link to comment
+EScout
Press Menu and PWR to turn on, then clear memory. You may have to be quick on the rocker to choose yes and press enter. Switch off, then on again. Go into Setup and initialize (entering your location's coords.) The alternative method is to press Nav and PWR, then choose 30, and enter. Go to the Meridian Yahoo Group Quote Link to comment
+Cacheoholic
Below are the recovery instructions for a dead MAP330 or Meridian. They are written for the MAP330 but they work just as well for the Meridians. 1. If your MAP330/Meridian is in a "locked up" state (stuck on), power it down by holding down MARK/GOTO and the ESC keys and press ENTER. This will power down the unit. 2. Power it up in "Software upload mode" by holding down MARK/GOTO and the ESC keys and press POWER. Unit shold power up with a "software upload mode active" message. 3. Run magup.exe, select NO at the dialog box. Click on "Expert" and checkmark "On" for the "Expert Upload" setting (be sure MAP 330/Meridian is selected as the "Unit Type" and click "OK" 4. Select the firmware file by clicking on "File" then "Select Code File". The firmware file should have a name like ZORRO204.SRE or ZORRO204.HEX or MRDN3_08.HEX. 5. Click on "Upload" and click "OK". Checkmark "Program Code Only". Check "Upload File". Quote Link to comment
+EScout
Cacheoholic's post above is the next step if the clear memory and initialization does not work. Just this week, I helped someone with a Merigreen. The clear memory and initialization worked and we did not need to do the firmware reload. Quote Link to comment
+sledgehampster
Not meaning to sound insulting but have you tried new batteries? Quote Link to comment
+SnS
Thanks for all of the suggestions guys but it looks like it's really dead. Nothing suggested worked. I also noticed that the batteries are dead shorting some how and go dead within a couple hours. I took it apart and saw nothing obvious. Quote Link to comment

I might be able to use this for the parts. Is your friend intersting in selling it? PM me. Quote Link to comment
