+mudsneaker
By Associated PressSAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Wildlife officials on Thursday credited a woman with saving her husband's life by clubbing a mountain lion that attacked him while the couple were hiking in a California state park. Jim and Nell Hamm, who will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary next month, were hiking in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park when the lion pounced. "He didn't scream. It was a different, horrible plea for help, and I turned around, and by then the cat had wrestled Jim to the ground," Nell Hamm said in an interview from the hospital where her husband was recovering from a torn scalp, puncture wounds and other injuries. read the whole story here : KOMO news story Quote Link to comment

+hairball45
The lesson here is to take your wife along and be sure she has a big stick. Nah that's a joke, but it's good to hear that the cat's victim is going to be ok. Quote Link to comment
+mudsneaker
a good ending for the people involved this time around. Luckily this is a rare event, but it can and will happen again. Its just a good time to remind everyone (especially the new folks) that as the weather begins to warm and we venture out more and into deeper parts of the hills. Be watchful. The critters are hungry and we have less legs to outrun them on. (dont run, its a bad thing) Quote Link to comment

kateweb
The guy is still serious and has been moved to San Francisco. Cats of all types have a tone of bacteria growing in their moth, he is probably suffering from an infection from it and being treated for it. I do wonder if he was a geocasher tho... As of last evening he was upgraded to Critical Condition and it does not look good. Send all your prayers for this man & his family. Quote Link to comment
+nameless301
I have always worried about being attacked by a mountain lion or being bitten by a rattler. I live in San Diego, but there is some trails that it would take a hell of long time to get back to a road from. I always wondered about that. At least I always take my g/f with me.
