+Pioneer 'n' Tiff Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 Link to a story concerning the thievery and recovery of many GPS units. Stolen GPS Story Quote
+Bud Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 Glad they caught them. The fact that they caught them by means of the device that they stole makes it even better. That the device happens to be one of my favorite toys is just icing on the cake. Quote
+Aiden's Cachers Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 I love hearing stuff like that Quote
kateweb Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 dude the kid thought it was a cell phone ?? at least the city got them back. Quote
+Vinny & Sue Team Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 It may be useful here to realize that the items stolen were aparently not GPS receivers, but rather GPS tracking transmitter devices, used to allow city managers to track whereabouts of city vehicles. It was the GPS tracking/transmitter function which allowed city officials and police to track down the stolen devices. Quote

News article was unclear/uneducated. Quote

+Big Max Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Cell phones can be tracked too. I have that option on my daughter's cell phone. Not so much to know her where abouts but because she is directionally challenged. The girl gets lost going from home to church. We have lived in the same house and attended the same church every Sunday since she was born 16 years ago. And it is only 2 miles. I will probably be buying her a GPS for her car in the near future.
