+jcak1979
I am sure this has been discussed, so if I need to be pointed in the right direction... great. We are heading to Brazil in May and would love to try and cache there but the GPS only has a basic map. First, do you think would be enough? Second, where can you get a more detailed map for anywhere in South America? We have a Garmin 60csx and from the garmin site it looks like they don't make south america maps.. any suggestions from other travellors would be greatly appreciated. Amy Quote Link to comment
+9Key
Garmin makes maps for select areas of Brazil: http://www.garmin.com/cartography/mapSourc...electBrazil.jsp Quote Link to comment
+tomfuller & Quill
My first cache search (a DNF) was on the island of Terciera (Azores, Portugal). I think I saw the cache but didn't want to ruin my pants trying to get to it. Look for caches that have a picture of the area. If you have a rental car in Brazil, you can choose suburban and rural caches. If depending on public transport, taxis and walking, that will limit the available caches. I know several cachers that don't even use a GPS but use only paper maps and a good compass. Having a map on the screen is useful but not a real necessity. Remember to waypoint where you start walking. Quote Link to comment
+sbell111
When I went to Europe, I didn't bother getting european maps for my GPSr. I just used the basemap. Naturally, I kept waypoints set for my hotel and any transportation that I was using, but I basically just winged it. Quote Link to comment
+brodiebunch
There is mapping software for different parts of the world. We have one we use for Europe but its a general map, Only the major highways and arterials are shown so we end up using a city map for more details. That has sort of limited us to urban caches. Still fun to find though. Quote Link to comment
BRTango
I've been caching in Ireland and the Bahamas. I didn't bother to get detailed electronic maps for either of them. Just be sure to get a good map when you get there and watch where you're going. Quote Link to comment
