+tehon3299
Does anyone know if it's possible to use my Garmin GPSMap 60CSx with a laptop for GPS navigation in a car? I also have the City Navigator 8 maps and software from Garmin. Thanks! Quote Link to comment
Neo_Geo
You gotta download, install and use the nRoute program. It's free from Garmin's Web site. CLICK HERE Edited January 4, 2007 by Neo_Geo Quote Link to comment

I also have the City Navigator 8 maps and software from Garmin. Thanks! Sure! Just hook up the CSx to the laptop using the USB cable, Load Mapsource and CN to the laptop and your good to go. The laptop will power the GPSr through the USB cable. Probably need a longer USB cable, too. Auto-routing will work in Mapsource. Also, one of those little antenna/receivers will work too instead of a full blown portable GPSr. Look at the Garmin GPS 18 (USB) and similar products. Most now have 12 channel with Waas and Sirf and/or BlueTooth. Or Google on "GPS Sensor". Just make sure they support the Garmin protocol. Oh yeah, gotta have nRoute software too. +New England n00b
Be aware that some places prohibit laptops in the front seat where the driver can see it (rather, anything that can display a movie or otherwise distract the driver). Check with 'the law' in your area before doing that. Quote Link to comment
+cache_r_joe
Since you have CN8, why bother, just do the autorouting on the GPS itself. Before I had an autorouting GPS I found it hard to deal with the laptop on the seat, etc. Worked but still hard to deal with unless there was someone dealing with the laptop. highflyin57
I use my Garmin 60csx with Delorme Street Atlas software. It was not too difficult to configure once I gave in and used the help options. I haven't had any success in downloading maps to my GPS yet, but it will give me turn by turn directions on my laptop. Good luck. Quote Link to comment
Neo_Geo
I use my Garmin 60csx with Delorme Street Atlas software. ... I haven't had any success in downloading maps to my GPS yet... That simply won't happen. The only maps you can load into your unit are Garmin maps. Quote Link to comment
