Question about geo-name change

The Waypoints

Recommended Posts

Well, after much criticism from my family about the name I chose originally for us, plus it was rather long to write on some of the micro caches, I have decided to take the plunge and change names. Now, I know I could just start from scratch with my found caches and TB/GC but I like to "keep in touch" with some of them. Especially the first, or more memorable ones, or ones where I have placed a TB/GC to make sure I didnt leave it in a cache and it was later missing (I would feel terrible if I put a trackable in a cache and it was stolen), or following the progress of my first found TB, seeing what others said about ones that I thought were difficult, or easy..... etc... I dont have a lot of finds, so while it will be time consuming, it shouldnt be impossible.

My question is, is there one "correct" way to do it. Take a look at GCPGTJ...... This is the first one that I have "moved" When I log it as a find, do I use the date that I am logging it? The date that I originally found it? Do I email the owner before or after or just leave a note in the log as I did in the above example? I know making it hard to do is my punishment for not choosing my first name with care lol.. (hey, I liked the original name!) Then, I have to email the owners of all the trackables that I have found and ask them politely if they would be willing to provide me with the tracking number of the item (I never thought about writing them down somewhere) and their permission to "discover" it where ever in the world it happens to be at the moment. Then, download all the pix I have posted, then upload them again to the new logs..... ARRGGG maybe I WILL just start over from scratch lol As I said, it is not about the numbers, I only had 51 to begin with anyway, but still being relatively new to the sport, I see these early ones as my "children" and would like to follow their progress and adventures. And, before anyone says it, YES I do realize I can still do that by logging into my original account. Just trying to stay (somewhat) organized under one acct if possible.

What I would do is re-log each cache wih the correct date and attach a note saying something along the lines of "Re-logging this cache after changing usernames. Please refer to log by (Old Username)". As for TB's, I'm not sure. Unless you have the tracking # you can't discover it, and grabbing it would probably create mild upsets in the bug page.

I looked at GCPGTJ and I'd say no - that's not how I'd do it anyway.

I'd use some form of "relogging this find as new user name" - but you really ought to use correct the date of the find and delete the original find log yourself, instead of telling the owner that they can. Of course they can. OR simply don't mention it at all. I'd be tempted to let it sit for a while, then go back and delete them all one day - a few weeks from now. Give the cache owners a chance to respond to your relog under new name, though likely none of them will.

TBs are much tougher - as you say, you'd need to email every TB owner for the code.

Ahhh!!... I didnt know you could delete your own log! Is that option under the "found it, write note, etc.. " section? I didnt want to just ignore it because I didnt want THEIR found count to be off. As soon as I hit "submit" I figured I should have used the original date <_< I will experiment with another one and see how it goes.

Thanks for the ideas!
