+The Forester
Yup, it's a Trimble GeoX. There are several different models, all of which have the same hand-held case. The Survey grade ones have two parts: an antenna unit which has a groundplane metal disc baseplate a little larger than a CD; and the handheld display unit. The two parts talk to eachother via a Bluetooth type radio link. You can chuck the antenna onto a very small backpack and go walkabout or mount the twig on sticks. The handheld unit is a Windoze-compatible palmPC. It's a lovely bit of kit, but somewhat OTT for geocaching. Quote Link to comment
Garmin8888
DMBC uses it for working out the local rights of ways for the free cycling maps. it says quote: "The yellow device is a portable PC attached to a GPS (satellite positioning system) device which will allow any object to be pinpointed in position to within a metre or two ....." So I bet it is expensive! Quote Link to comment
+Happy Humphrey
It's a lovely bit of kit, but somewhat OTT for geocaching. Actually, the GeoXM looks ideal for geocaching: a ruggedised PDA with integrated GPSr. Perfect! But the price is crazy, even on Ebay. Quote Link to comment
