PMR 446 Walkietalkies while caching
zShadowWalker(2E0SUD) replied to Eclectic Penguin's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I'll have to start carrying my little VX-1 with me a bit more whilst caching. OK its power is a bit limited at .5 W but works well enough esp. if Helen has the Standard in the car. One day ill get round to wiring the FT-7800 into the new car. We also have PMR 446 Handys if i can find where they got burried. so if theres a caching channel aroud might have to listen to that could 3 33 Be reselected again for caching. ok informally but weight of numbers might help. if we are using it alot. Having a radio with you might help in emergency situations when the mobiles are out of signal. Just a thought or 2 of mine 73 DE 2E0SUD Adrian. -

Has anybody had any problems whilst setting a Puzzle Cache? Just put or first one out and no matter how often I checked it I still managed to publish it with small errors that made some sections of code unresolvable. Has this happened to anyone else or was i having a case of not seeing the wood from the trees whilst setting this one up. 73 and Happy New Year to all Adrian.

Improved Export From Gsak To Memory Map
zShadowWalker(2E0SUD) replied to roolku's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Version 1.1.1 of cachemate now works around this. If you give Memory Map a link of "\cmate:GCABCD" it will not have the path appended to it, and cachemate now strips the backslash off it. Is it me or has Version 1.2.2 Stoped striping the the '\' off the command line. or is the the verion of PPC 2002 thats causing the problem. I could never get the cache pages to appear on a 2002 PPC, just updated my ipaq to 2003 and it works no problem so I think you can't link memory map and cachmate on a 2002 PPC I have been playing with a simple script through nscriptm to open the file and it would appear that the MM does not support passing paramaters to a fil and if there is a space they are treated as seperate files. It looks like ppc2003 validay if the files are existing returns an error. It might be possable to get it to work using separate files in the directory to link to work. Alot of messing around though unless anybody as any other idears to try.. unfortantley updateing the firware for the iPaq 3950 seems to be out.. I'll carry on trying idear and let you know if i suceed. as it migh be. of use for the PPC2002 Owners. 73 Adrian -

Yes I was thinking of 40M and grosley over generalised the idear how ever a HF net might be somthing to try i'll need to restring the loop for 40M at home or use the whip for 40M on the car. Need to spend some time to get it tuned. For the dipole i might try the 2x Slinky one witch might fit in the small garden alough it will be still close to the ground. 73 Adrian 2E0SUD -

2M is a good bad where it relativley cheep to pick up equipment for and seems to have a good folwing. Good for mobile and 'local' use. HF is a bit more involved but also good fun to use. Any one considered stying a Geocaching Net on HF. Normaly Whole UK coverage is possable with modest antenna and low power. Good luck with the Foundation Exam and that reminds me i need to get my self sorted and take the full. 73 Adrian. -
