+Centex Trekker
I got my 1GB micro SD card in the mail today, along with a SD adapter and a USB reader. I discovered that I already had a USB SD cad reader, so if anybody needs one, let me know. I'll make you a good deal. To copy the file from MapSource, do I simply copy the .gdb file to the reader? Or is it more complicated than that? Thanks. Quote Link to comment
+Centex Trekker
Well, that was a resounding failure. I viewed the device with Explorer and it showed the file, but it was only 70KB. Maybe I didn't wait long enough for it to copy everything. It shows as a .gdb file. The one on my 128MB card is in a Garmin folder and appears as a gmapsupp.img file that is 122,464KB in size. +Centex Trekker
OK, I just did it the "regular" way, by using MapSource. It took 25 minutes to load 309.5MB worth of maps. I loaded City Navigator and Topo West for the entire state of Texas. I also remembered that you have to use Garmin's image loader to copy to the card reader. O forgot that I had downloaded it. Now. I'll have to figure out how to use it. Quote Link to comment

+Centex Trekker
I got off track. I really would like to know how to copy maps from MapSource to my Micro SD card reader. Is it really faster than coping direct from MapSource to the GPS? It took 25 minutes to copy 3.3MB that way. Quote Link to comment
+GOT GPS?
I'm doing the experiment right now. I just Clicked on Send to Device in Mapsource, and clicked the Down Arrow to the right of Device:, and selected the Drive letter of my SD card Reader, and Mapsource is compiling the maps for the card(64meg card), and it just worked good, in short time. DOH! Sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees. I never thought of doing it directly from MapSource. I forgot when there's a dropbox, it's there for a reason. I experimented with the 128MB card that came with the unit and downloaded the entire state of TX (MapSource said 108 MB and MS Explorer said 109.3 MB) in 4 minutes. (edit) It was from CN v8. Thanks very much. Edited July 30, 2006 by Centex Trekker Quote Link to comment
