Route Calculation On Etrex Vista C

I have a question about a Garmin Etrex Vista C. Whenever I calculate a route that follows the road, the status bar for the calculation jumps up by 20% sometimes, and other times it increases about 1% a second. Sometimes, once it gets to 100%, I have to wait about 2 minutes before it actually disappears and goes to the map. Does anyone else have this happening and\or noticing it? This is not an extremely important thing, but I've been curious about it for as long as I've has the GPS which is about 6 months.

Pretty much all navigation software will display a similar behavior. Until they actually start calculating a particular set of alternatives, they can't really guess how much work is left. E.g. if you drive from LA to NYC, the beginning and the final 100 miles of the route will be real complex to figure out with all the similar alternatives, but the 2700 miles inbetween will be quite trivial. The GPS will rightfully think around the 2800th mile that it's 90+% done, but surprise awaits on the last segment.

I have the Vista C and my GPSr never takes that long to calculate a route to the next destination. However, I am usually only asking it to go a few miles.

Are you asking it to calculate between cities or across a large metropolitan area?

I just got my GPS and I don't have a detailed map I just have some highways I don't have all the tiny streets in big cities. :D
