+Thrak
I haven't used my 76CSx under heavy tree cover yet but I expect it to work pretty well. With my 76CS I didn't get satellites inside my house. I couldn't even get sats in my wife's car unless the unit was in the windshield. The new 76CSx gets signal in her car easily. I was downloading some stuff from my computer to the 76CSx and left it sitting a while - (it draws power from the USB port when plugged into the compuer!) - and I snapped a screenshot of the satellites it was getting. This is a screenshot taken while the 76CSx was sitting on my desk inside my house and nowhere near a window. Quote Link to comment
bansheegeo
I get great reception in the car. If you start up in the car it seems to acquire faster under the windshield/window, but otherwise it is great anywhere in the car. On the other hand, my older victorian wattle/daub house is a big faraday cage. Cell phones are weak and the gps is too. I often lose signal in the house. No need for a tinfoil hat here. I was able to acquire and hold a very weak signal (but 3d) from the depths of the El Dorado casino in Reno. Quote Link to comment
+Thrak
The CSx does great anywhere - just the previous CS didn't like my wife's car. Quote Link to comment

Suscrofa
Indeed, it is why I bought a 60CX, so I could easily find my way in the house. ! Quote Link to comment

Here are screenshots of what I get from home, with 60Csx sitting on my desk, at nothing more than 3 meters from the window (1.5 m wide, 1.8 m tall). Loosing reception easily. This is from Europe. When in the street, no problem, great reception. What sort of window/house do you have ? My house is of concrete. Would that be the explanation for such low reception ? What sort of reception do you guys, 60 or 76 Csx owners, generally have from inside a house ? Rather similar to what I have or to what Thrak has ? Thanks. pyt22fr Quote Link to comment

I went on a 5 mile hike today with a good amount of tree cover, and I lost signal half the time. This made me miss a cache that was along the trail, since I didn't know where it was. Suscrofa
Of course concrete and brick are the reasons ! Keep in mind houses in North America are built with a few planks, some insulation and plaster panels Not much to block RF signals. Only aluminum siding can be a problem. Quote Link to comment

What sort of reception do you guys, 60 or 76 Csx owners, generally have from inside a house ? Rather similar to what I have or to what Thrak has ? In my apartment, in a house built with reinforced concrete, I don't get any reception at all with the 60 CSx. In one room I can get a weak reception by getting right near the window, but the windows of the other room have some sort of metal coating (from the outside they look like mirrors), and the only way I can get reception there is to open the window and hold the 60 CSx outside. Apart from that, I get reception in trains, cars, brick houses, under bridges, in backpacks... Quote Link to comment

I experience the same at work : building walls made of metal + insulating panels + brown windows that probably include some sort insulating inner foil, no way for reception. At home indeed, from the bedroom which has a much wider window than the lobby, even with plastic shutters closed, I get fairly good reception under a couple of blankets ! pyt22fr Quote Link to comment
