  1. This has been discussed before on this forum, many people have noticed the difference and agree that the CS timers should be put in place on the X series or make it adjustable by the user. I would encourage you to email Garmin and voice your complaint, I have done so already and the more people that do, the more seriously they will consider making a change in a future firmware update.
  2. Actually, the Transflash a.ka. microSD cards come with an adapter so that they can be used in anything that takes a standard SD card. At least this is true for SanDisk.
  3. I just did a test on my 60CSx and it didn't behave in the manner you described. I actually never enter the city name anyway, save time and just enter the street name and number and select the right one from the list provided if there is more than one match. I am using City Select 7, which is different than your Metroguide. I am not sure if that is causing the difference in functionality.
  4. Thanks for your reply. I had a GPS V and then a 60CS and now a 60CSx. You will be happy with your purchase. The only thing that I wish the CSx had that the V had was the Detour function.
  5. How do you set it to "1 second" is that the same as "most often"?
  6. Hi Thrak, I am happy for you and for your 76Csx reception, but rather surprised. Here are screenshots of what I get from home, with 60Csx sitting on my desk, at nothing more than 3 meters from the window (1.5 m wide, 1.8 m tall). Loosing reception easily. This is from Europe. When in the street, no problem, great reception. What sort of window/house do you have ? My house is of concrete. Would that be the explanation for such low reception ? What sort of reception do you guys, 60 or 76 Csx owners, generally have from inside a house ? Rather similar to what I have or to what Thrak has ? Thanks. pyt22fr Concrete is the most likely reason.
  7. The biggest difference was the size of the map segments that you would select to download to your GPSr. City Select has been phased out, so City Navigator 8 is your only choice, unless you find a copy of City Select V 7 somewhere like eBay or something.
  8. 60/76CSx, with auto mount, City Navigator 8, Topo, Cigarette power adapter.
  9. I will take a shot at answering your questions, others can correct me if I am wrong. 1. Yes, but they have to be in registered and unlocked GPSr's. 2. Not that I know of, you download them into a GPSr. 3. Maybe, not sure though. 4. Not until their next release a year from now and then you will have to pay for it. 5. You have the options of loading all or some of the following: map segments, waypoints, tracks and routes and custom POI's with the POI loader. 6. In Mapsource you use the Map tool and highlight and select map segments, they are of different sizes and shapes and 5-9 segments make up a normal sized state. 7. You can't uninstall the basemap. Hope that helps.
  10. I did the same test today going to work with my old 60CS. I got 8.12 on the trip computer and the track log. I agree that the algorithms for the 60CSx need to be tweaked a little bit.
  11. I am not sure what you are talking about. I have tracks saved to the microSD card and can access them with my GPSr. I don't understand this either. I saved 2 tracks yesterday to my card and I can still delete them without going into USB mass storage mode.
  12. May I know how to set lock on roads to off ? Thnks. pyt22fr Page 43 in the manual. It is easier than trying to explain it here.
  13. You will enjoy your purchase. The 60 series x or otherwise are waterproof to IPX7 standards. Does that mean you can just shake it off and continue using it? I think my 276c and V are similarly waterproof but the manual says to remove the batteries and let it dry out. http://www.garmin.com/footnotes/ipx.html Most Garmin® GPS units are waterproof in accordance with IEC 529 IPX7. IEC 529 is a European system of test specification standards for classifying the degrees of protection provided by the enclosures of electrical equipment. An IPX7 designation means the GPS case can withstand accidental immersion in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes. An IPX8 designation is for continuous underwater use.

  15. I agree with you all, they should make it the same as the previous 60/76 units or make it adjustable by the user. I have emailed Garmin about this requesting them to change it. I would encourage all of you to do so as well. The more people they hear from, the more seriously they will consider making the changes.

  17. A related question if I may... How exactly do the tone signals work? Is there just one tone at a set distance from a turn? If you select Tones from the Setup menu you have the option of setting different tones for the following things: Message Beep, Key Beep, Power Beep, Turn Warning (Early) and Turn Warning (Final) or Mute all sounds. There are 19 different tones to pick from.
  18. oh dear, andygriffith, I have sold my CS before getting the upgrade. but my point was that I have no problems hearing the beeps of both even though there may be differences in "loudness" between the 2 sets when doing the test you mentioned. alwaysGPS, Ok, I still have my CS so I am able to compare the two, others have also stated that they hear a significant loss of volume with the x series.
  19. alwaysGPS, Take your CS and your CSx and power them up. Go to the tone setups and select the same one on each. Hit enter at the same time and let us know if you don't hear a significant difference in the volume between your CS and your CSx.
  20. After reading about the discrepancies I decided to do some tests today going to and from work. I have a 60CSx running 2.90/2.60 Lock on roads was off Tracking setup was Auto/Normal and I logged the tracks to the microSD card to avoid any straightening. Test 1 Backed my truck out of the garage and parked in front of my house and got a stable WAAS signal with about 10-14 EPE. Reset my truck odometer Reset my GPS trip computer Reset and turned on my tracking Drove to work Truck odometer read 7.9 miles GPS trip computer read 8.12 miles Track log measured 8.13 miles Test 2 Did the same thing driving home Truck odometer read 7.8 miles GPS trip computer read 8.12 miles Track log measured 8.11 miles Truck odometer may be off a little, I got rid of the stock tires and put slightly larger tires on and who knows how accurate it was in the beginning. With my 60CS previously, I always relied on just the tracklog measurement, never bothered with the trip computer when I mountain bike. I always found that the tracklog was dead on with the computer on my bike. So take this data for what it is worth, but they look pretty close to me. You may see a bigger difference when measuring slower speed other than driving speeds, I don't know.
  21. Thrak, I have noticed the same things on my 60CSx and I have emailed Garmin requesting that they fix them both. At least make the warning times/distances variable settings and pump up the volume to at least that of the CS series. The more people that contact them about these issues, the more seriously they will take them.
  22. Hopefully you all will email Garmin about this "issue" like I did and maybe they will correct it in a firmware release. I seriously doubt it is a hardware issue.
  23. I agree that the aspect of charging is a little inconvenient, but in some cases it made it more convenient. As I said above, I never had to change batteries in the middle of the day. Given our location in kayaks in the water, it was rather inconvenient for my friend to have to change batteries en route. I can imagine that during a hiking trip, keeping spare batteries accessible might not be as inconvenient, but it would be a extra thing that you wouldn't need to do if you had a rechargeable battery. As for carrying batteries PLUS a box... rather than just batteries... the difference is negligible. For the 7-week trip, we each carried something like 60 batteries. (I'm only guessing, I can't recall exactly) That is, we had 15 4-packs of the lithium batteries. I trimmed the cardboard off the 4-packs so I simply had 15 little plastic packages of fresh batteries. By coincidence, the battery box I carried held four batteries, so all I had to do was open one of my packages and fill the battery box. The battery box is virtually the same size as a package of batteries, so the difference came down to almost nothing. I don't expect I can convince you. There are faults with either method, and if you prefer AAs, then you prefer AAs. I can follow your argument, but I think people are incorrectly assuming that using an internal battery in the "wilderness" can't be done. I've done it, and in my opinion, it worked better than using AAs. Jamie Jamie, What I don't understand is that the Magellan batteries last about 14 hours, right? A set of charged NiMH batteries will last as long in a 60CSx and longer in a 60CS, so I don't see why your friend had to recharge in the middle of the day. Also, you had to carry around a battery box to recharge yours which I see as inconvenient. Finally, worst case, you carry 2 spare AA's with you and swap them out if you need to, a 20 second process.
  24. I upgraded to a CSx from a CS and I can definitely hear the difference between the two. I asked another member yesterday if he heard a difference between his 76CS and 76CSx and he said they were the same. I think it is an issue with the 60 series in the x version. I have emailed them about it, but the more that do the more they will take it seriously. What would be ideal is if they made it adjustable, but I would be satisfied if they just made it as loud as the 60CS or better yet, the GPS V.
  25. I believe someone posted that if you enable saving your track to the microSD card that doesn't happen. Feel free to test and report back. I haven't tested this with my old CS, but did the CS have this issue as well, the discrepancy between the track log distance and the trip computer distance?
