Good, Inexpensive Gps Receiver?

Recommended Posts

Greetings!

My ETrex isn't behaving itself. It loses satellites in woods, it takes forever to catch up to where I'm actually standing, and it can't navigate closer then 100 feet to its target. So, I think we'll have to replace it. I'd like something that performs reasonably well in the woods, that can keep up reasonably well with the user's position as he is moving slowly ever closer to the cache, and that costs under $200. Suggestions?

Thanks very much!

I like my Garmin GPS60 - I've logged about 150 caches with it now (had logged 150 with my eTrex). A little more functionality than the eTrex, bigger screen, USB & serial, can use an external antena, easier to manually enter waypoints, good battery life with NiMH batteries, WAAS.

Can be had for about $150.

Oh, best thing..it's yellow!

Check eBay for the now-discontinued Garmin Legend C. I saw a brand new one for $179.00. The color units are newer technology and get a lock faster and hold it better.

Later, if you decide to buy the City Select software, the GPSr can be used for auto-routing.
