+dino-irl
Anyone know if you can buy one of these this side of the Atlantic? Quote Link to comment
johnzissler
The short answer to that is no ! That is because the majority of number plates (not all) are oblong and not square so there isnt a market for them over here. I have seen some nice ones in the States, but they wont fit my UK car. I'm aware of the size issue so that's why I was asking if they're made in the UK/Europe. I've seen loads of cars with similar plate borders with the supplier/garage name on them and wondered if they can be made individually like personalised plates. Quote Link to comment
markandlynn
Ive had special ones made for my Kit cars in the past. It usually cosist of having a phrase or similar put on the bottom of the plate never had a fancy border though. Most halfords etc have facilities for making them up with extra lines etc. Quote Link to comment
+Simply Paul
The rules on number plates are much tighter now than they were few years ago, and they may not let you put your own small text in along the bottom any more. As for the surround, I know Halfords (and other car-parts & accessories places) do chrome-look and black ones you could perhaps attach your own text to, but I've not seen any that'll let you 'stamp' your own - or pre-made geocaching ones, for that matter - sorry Quote Link to comment
+Billy Twigger
Just a thought - but seems a pretty good way of advertising that you have a lot of valuable gear in the car? Quote Link to comment
+tteggod trackers
yes paul is right, the rules are much tighter, you now have to take your V5 an a household bill to get number plates made up. plus the name and postcode of the outlet has to be along the bottom. you can no longer have your own message along the bottom in small print. +dino-irl
You can still get novelty plates made her in Ireland and in my case I'm just after the border and don't intend to change the plate at all. Getting blanks and having someone make up the little graphics seems like the way forward. Quote Link to comment
+Simply Paul
In that case I suggest Letraset from an arts and crafts shop (wide choice of colours, sizes and typefaces) and several coats of clear lacquer from a Halfords or similar. Quote Link to comment
