Team GeoWerks Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 (edited) It has recently come to my attention that at least one individual in my area is in the practice of logging/counting a "find" of their own cache hides in order to artificially inflate the number of caches "found". I've noticed it on almost every one of his cache hides that has been 'archived' (over 100+ of his 300+ hides). His thinking, I assume, is that they will go un-noticed since they are archived and others are less likely to view them at that point. Is this a common practice? I have no way of knowing for sure, but it is not likely that he is the only one doing this. I realize that these numbers mean very little when it comes to caching. The rewards are intrinsic...there are no prizes being handed out that I am aware of. And, myself, as well as others, do it for the pure enjoyment...not the glory or possible recognition by our peers. Furthermore, engaging in this deceptive practice only serves to make himself look foolish It saddens me to think that someone would go to such lengths to make themselves look good However, I believe, for the sake of a more accurate recording of caches "found," that the ability to engage in this practice be eliminated. +Adrenalynn Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 Some very high profile cachers seem to do that. Sometimes multiple times, no less. I guess you just consider the source...
+briansnat Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 Its a tacky practice, but not half as tacky as calling out individual in the forums.
Team GeoWerks Posted May 1, 2006 Author Posted May 1, 2006 Its a tacky practice, but not half as tacky as calling out individual in the forums. Those thing which are done in secret shall be shouted from the rooftops Biblically speaking of course...
+Team Neos Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 However, I believe, for the sake of a more accurate recording of caches "found," that the ability to engage in this practice be eliminated. Then my cache record would be incorrect. September of 2004, I found the cache. Found it About August of 2005, I became the owner of the cache. Moser Cache
+Runaround Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 Its a tacky practice, but not half as tacky as calling out individual in the forums. Ding, ding, ding. We have a winner.
