  1. There will be a report about GeoCaching tonight (5.1.2006) @ 10pm K-CAL Channel 9. This, of course, is for the greater Los Angeles area.
  2. I recently went searching for a cache and did not find it due to it being muggled. I 'know' it was MIA because I took someone who had found it earlier along with me the second time I searched for it. I logged a note the first time stating my suspicions and waited for some response from the owner. None came. Several weeks later, following the second search, I again logged a note including the fact that it had been confirmed missing by another who had previously located the cache. And, again...waited for a response from the owner. Again, no response. Finally, after waiting over a month since my first visit/log, having received no response, I logged a "Request For Archiving." Then, within a couple of days, I received an extremely nasty email message from the owner regarding my request suggesting that before I "give up" that I "send a note to the cache owner" and tell them I think the cache is missing. He also deleted my logs regarding the DNF/MIA cache as well. I was under the impression that whenever anyone logs something on the cache page that the owner is sent a copy of that message. At least, that's been the case whenever anyone has logged onto the few caches that I have placed. Therefore, my question is this: Is it acceptable for a user to log a "Request For Archiving" for a cache that he/she does not own if he/she and/or others have found the cache to be missing and the owner has made no response? If so, how long should they wait for a response of some sort from the cache owner?
  3. Then my cache record would be incorrect. September of 2004, I found the cache. Found it About August of 2005, I became the owner of the cache. Moser Cache Well, I never said my suggestion was flawless
  4. Those thing which are done in secret shall be shouted from the rooftops Biblically speaking of course...
  5. It has recently come to my attention that at least one individual in my area is in the practice of logging/counting a "find" of their own cache hides in order to artificially inflate the number of caches "found". I've noticed it on almost every one of his cache hides that has been 'archived' (over 100+ of his 300+ hides). His thinking, I assume, is that they will go un-noticed since they are archived and others are less likely to view them at that point. It saddens me to think that anyone would go to such lengths to make themselves look good Also, I realize that these numbers mean very little when it comes to caching. The rewards are intrinsic...there are no prizes being handed out that I am aware of. And, myself, as well as others, do it for the pure enjoyment...not the glory or possible recognition by our peers. Furthermore, engaging in this deceptive practice only serves to make himself look foolish Is this a common practice? I have no way of knowing for sure, but it is not likely that he is the only one doing this. Either way, I believe, for the sake of a more accurate recording of caches "found," that the ability to engage in this practice be eliminated.

  7. Although I am not currently a Premium Member I would like to have the ability to search for "Caches Not Yet Found," as well as by "Size." These features may already be available to premium members. But, I'm not sure.
