+kayakerinme Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 This is a feature enhancement request related to the Insta-Notify emails I receive for new caches being published. I recently updated my phone to a Treo and now have emails coming to the phone. When I receive the email, the cache name and guid are part of the email along with links to the cache. Unfortuately, none of this info really helps with the WAP interface as one can view a cache by its waypoint. I end up having to go a rather roundabout route to find the coordinates. So, my request is to change this: This is an automated message from Geocaching Location: Maine, United States 0.3mi N (0.43km N) gpsfun published Dyer Hutchinson Farm Chian Cache (Traditional Cache) at 4/17/2006 Log Date: 4/17/2006 Published Visit this log entry at the below address: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LU...27-438c9dbc3a39 Visit Traditional Cache Dyer Hutchinson Farm Chian Cache http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...e4-151466aa48dc Profile for gpsfun: http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?guid=5a...18-be64d4258026 Notification: Traditional Publish http://www.geocaching.com/notify/edit.aspx?NID=13124 ever so slightly to this: ...Location: Maine, United States 0.3mi N (0.43km N) gpsfun published Dyer Hutchinson Farm Chian Cache (GCVFYV) (Traditional Cache) at 4/17/2006 ... +Lil Devil Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 I recently updated my phone to a Treo With the Treo you can just click the link and the normal page will open in the built-in web browser. You don't need to bother with the WAP site. However for everyone with less-capable cell phones, I do support this suggestion
+DeRock & The Psychic Cacher Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 I'll add my vote to this addition (for about the 4th time).

You don't need to bother with the WAP site. Well I'll be darned. I poked and poked on that link and it wouldn't go. I even tried copying the link to the browser but it got cut off as being too long. Apparently I wasn't poking hard enough because it did open in the browser today. Sheesh... technology Still, it'd be nice to have so I could go to the WAP site instead. Thanks.
+demhackbardt Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 I'd like to see the GPX file attached to the email as well I end up going to the site and downloading it, so if it was attached, that would speed things up. Just an idea...

For those of us without a "real" web browser on our phones, a link to the WAP version of the cache page (not just the GC number) would be great.
+TheAprilFools Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 I think a wap link would be useful for some users. But on my phone, it can receive emails but I can't follow the links, even to the wap site. Having the waypoint code would at least allow me to look it up.

Just an idea... Quintupling the size of the email? No thanks. It's not much use for most people using hand-held devices. And for those on PCs, the GPX is just a few clicks away.

I notived that over the past week or so (maybe longer but I'm not sure), the insta-notify emails have included the GC waypoint ID. It now comes through as: ...For GCXNNY: YOU LIGHT UP MY LIFE (Traditional Cache) Location: Maine, United States 41.6mi N (66.9km N) gpsfun published YOU LIGHT UP MY LIFE (Traditional Cache) at 8/19/2006 ... Thanks for doing this! I appreciate it very much!
+housefamily Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 How about an option for a 'short notification'. I'd love to set up forwarding on my notification emails to my phone via SMS, but it would take up about 3 texts. Since I have to pay for each one, a simple, short notification would be brilliant.
+Lil Devil Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 ... emails to my phone via SMS, but it would take up about 3 texts. What provider do you have? I have Verizon and they just truncate emails if they are too long and I just get one text message. There are times I wish it would split it into multiple text messages.
+housefamily Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 they just truncate emails if they are too long and I just get one text message. I wish! We're a bit stuck for choice over here in the UK. O2 provide the service, but I suppose I could try elsewhere. Either way, it'd be handy to have the important info in the top few lines.
