jhamner Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 I am new to geocaching and I love it. I have been exploring familiar territories though. I'm ready to get away from my comfort zone. Having said that, I am curious about using nRoute to help guide me to my destination in unfamiliar territory. I guess I should mention that I have an eTrex Legend C. I also have the metroguide and topo software for it. So on to what I really need to know. I have been playing with nRoute but I haven't figured out how to calculate a turn by turn route to my destination. The route always comes up as the crow flys (straight line). Am I missing something? City select software maybe? Any help is greatly appreciated. Quote

Even when I am using nRoute I use the gps to build the route. It is one of the options you can enable to have it ask each time if you want to Follow Road, or Off Road. I believe it is in MENU, MENU, SETUP, ROUTING, change to prompted instead of follow or off road. I don't have my gps right in front of me but that should get you close. Quote
+kgag Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 I believe it depends on the version of MetroGuide that you have as to whether or not it will route. Quote
+Fred Flintstone Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 If you want to use NRoute you need to go to Edit - Preference - Routing - Use auto routing. This is if you are going to use your computer to route. I am not sure if Nroute will route with MetroGuide. I know the mapping gps will not route correctly with Metro. Good luck! Quote
Neo_Geo Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 (edited) If you create the route in nRoute (and you should since your GPSr doesn't do autorouting), Be sure that a routable map product (MetroGuide) is selected. Then, in the "Route Properties" window, click on the "Recalculate" button before clicking on activate. Recalculate is what tells the program to find the turn-by-turn routing. +LandRover Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 Yes you need Garmin software package that supports auto routing, such as City Select, City Navigator or as I understand it an OLDER version of Metroguide. Nroute is not much good for autorouting without the maps it needs, hey it was free what do you expect. Quote
Neo_Geo Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 I can't seem to get it to work with MetroGuide. IIRC, when MapSource did the routing function, I think it was able to use the routing data in MetroGuide. They must've taken that ability out when routing was delegated to nRoute. Quote
jhamner Posted April 12, 2006 Author Posted April 12, 2006 Hey thanks for the replies, everybody. I'm going to try it after work...or during if time allows. I'll let you know if I ever get it to work with metro guide. Quote
jhamner Posted April 12, 2006 Author Posted April 12, 2006 BTW, whats up with the Tadpole status? I guess I'll have to change that. Quote
Neo_Geo Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 BTW, whats up with the Tadpole status? I guess I'll have to change that. Post 17 more messages on the board and you're automatically promoted to "Geocacher" status! But please don't post any messages like "20th Post - no longer a tadpole". Quote
