+bottlecap
I've never hidden a cache, so I'm as new as you get. I know an interesting area near my home, but it is on private property. I know the owner, and he has never had a problem with locals being there, probably because he never had a lawsuit. I would never hide a cache that could cause harm to anyone, but the potential in the area exists. There are some interesting things to look into. The area offers some "no gear required" rock climbing. Is there any way that I can protect the property owner from law suits while posting the cache? The man is my friend, and I dont want to saddle him with any legal problems. I would like to post a cache with "owners permission" proudly displayed, but I also place protecting my friend over placing a cache. Any advise? Quote Link to comment
+welch
Someone could trespass there, get injuried, and still sue the owner. Even if they didn't win it would still cost time and money. Quote Link to comment

MapheadMike
A prior thread has some links that address some of these issues. Quote Link to comment

+freejam
I'd never knowingly hide a cache on private property it's not worth the hassle - it's a big enough world out there not to resort to an individual's land. Quote Link to comment
+reveritt
I would discuss it with the landowner. Explain geocaching--maybe even take him on a hunt. Maybe offer to organize a CITO event on his property. Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
If, as you said, ahe already allows the public to use the land, I don't see the difference if they are there to hunt a geocache or squirrel (or hike or swim or whatever they do there). Quote Link to comment
