  1. I know that hearing "read the manual" can be painful, but they are right. It is the "Bible" for your GPS. Like Brian said, the Quick Start will give you all of the skills you need to get out there. Another option, my personal favorite, is just play with it, and see what happens. I'm pretty sure most newer models have a "restore defaults" setting, so you can't screw it up. Another option, and probably the most fun, like Cardinal mentioned, is an event. There will be many people there that will be more than happy to help you out, and wait 'till you hear some of those Geostories. Based on your first find, there are a few in your area, that I'm jealous I can't attend. They sound like a lot of fun: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...38-e658fc256111 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...db-86c142af20bb Don't be shy, everyone there went to thier first event at one time, and they all survived. And WELCOME to the community.
  2. Ok, another one for the not while geacaching columb. Not my only celebrity encounter, but a special one. I was a very tiny tot, my mother was holding me over her shoulder at Niagra Falls. I started giggling, so she leaned back to see what was going on. There was Marylin Monroe tickling me with a flower. Of course I have no memory of it, but I do have the flower. Is it true? I think so, my mom doesn't lie much.
  3. My 2 cents. First of all we have gotten off track from the OP's question. I have no answer for you, because I will not hunt a cemetary cache. I have no clue how my GPS works in a cemetary. Second of all, Geocaching.com needs to have a headstone available that will consceal an ammo can, I'd buy one. Once I'm gone, sure, stop on by, say "hello", and get a smiley. That is a cache I'd be honored to hunt, "Stop by and say 'Hi' to (any geocacher)". The difference is, "I want you there". They are my PERSONAL feelings, and I don't believe that they should ignite any arguements, they're mine after all. My personal feelings don't help out the original topic, but neither do anyone elses. Umm, GPS units in a cemetary?
  4. I have seen "wooden nickel" type of things that the placer used a lot of thier time wood burning into thier sig item. Very low cost, but a LOT of time to make them. Probably the most impressive to me, because you know someone worked very hard to show me a piece of wood, that's dedication.
  5. If you want to drop me a check in the mail, by all means do. I'll whip you something up. The first 5 pages will be quality stuff, the rest.......... We're looking for tuperware in the woods while following a needle, not decrypting the Dead Sea Scrolls. Geocaching.com gives all of the necessary info, including links to much more in depth stuff that's already been written a few times over.
  6. Thank you for your reply, I appreciate it.
  7. I have a Lowrance I finder H2oC. I want to upgrade to a larger memory card. I takes either MMC or SD cards. What is the difference between MMC and SD, and what will work better in a GPS? Thanks
  8. I'll second all that said, "when they're interested". Claiming a find for a 6 month old who was carried the whole way, and has no clue what is even going on, seems lame to me. However, I may have been swayed a little by the previous poster who stated that it can be used as sort of a "baby book". That sounds nice. In the end, as always, "it's your game, play it how you want".
  9. There is a "ball" here, can we please keep our eye on it?
  10. Common joranda, do you really want to go there? This was someone asking advice about a cache that he thought disrespectful. He asked advice, he didn't do ANYTHING!
  11. I agree with StarBrand. Since the owner doesn't give any info about even knowing the person, and if it is placed as you say, I believe it is over the line. But don't get rammy. Drop the owner an e-mail, explain your conscerns, and provide a link to this topic, then play it by ear. They seem like dedicated cachers, and I don't think any further action will be needed. It might even get us a chance to hear the other side of the story.
  12. Looks like a good time! Are Pennsylvanians welcome? No worries about getting there, I drive in Jersey all the time. I won't be in the 3rd lane going 60, and please don't TRY running me off the road, I'll play "bumper cars" with you!
  13. Well said Keystone. I'm thrilled to find out that cemetary caches are held to a higher standard. I personally won't hunt any of them, but have no issues with the folks that hide or find them, it's just my choice. As long as "respect" remains the #1 issue, there shouldn't be any problems.
  14. Ok, I'll be more specific. I have two sets of coords, and want to make an equalatteral triangle for the third point out of them, and was hoping someone could provide a linky.
  15. I need a little help with mathematics, and coordinates, can you help? I'm planning a cache, I'm ok with the math, but how do I incorporate coords, got a linky? Thanks.
  16. No, they're not illegal or frowned upon, as a matter of fact, I'm downright surprised that there weren't caches there. Like Cerebrus mentioned, "It must be the area", and no local cachers are "into" cemetary caches.
  17. Does that make me "uber cool"? I sure hope so, I think.
  18. I have a thought. I have my Jeep in my possesion, and I'll be attending an event before July 1st. Would it be bad form to let people "discover" it before it was launched? I see it as "no biggey", but I'm looking for opinions. After all, they "saw" the Jeep, why can't they "discover" it? What are your thoughts?
  19. Google and wikipedia are your friends . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypertufa
  20. Is there a website or something about the group? Unfortunately, I'm very close to a child with cancer, and would like to learn more. I'm willing to help, can you be a bit more specific about what kind of assistance you're looking for?
  21. He he, you actually stuck around long enough to check its eyes??????
  22. Hazleton saying Howdy, and welcome to the wonderful world of geocaching. Oh, add me to the list also.
  23. The Question was asked, the question was answered, let's leave it alone, PLEASE!
