Help With New Gps?

Hey all...

I am pretty new to this whole scene, but the few times I have gone out with others it's been way fun. I just got a new GPS...a TomTom GO 700...and really want to use it for Geocaching. Only problem is, I can't really figure out how to put in the coordinates. Does anyone have one of these puppies? And, if so, could ya help me out? I have tomorrow off and would love to go play in Portland with my new GPS! Thanks so much!

Wow Stacy! What a unit! I just got through reading up on that Tom Tom Go 700! Sounds like it does everything but bake bread!

Now, if you were asking about an Explorist 200.......I could really fill you in!

I got a few numbers riding on the Texas Lotto tonight, if they hit....I will buy one of those units and learn all about it and let you know!

But I bet you will get the info a lot quicker from some of the other cachers!! LOL!

Have fun caching!

As I understand it the Tom Tom units are designed for automobile navigation and not really suitable for geocaching. You are probably best off using the Tom Tom to get you near the cache and an inexpensive, dedicated handheld to get you the rest of the way.

I''m going to move this to the appropriate forum so the experts can help

My boss has a Tom Tom GO 300 and has let me use it sometimes so I have familiarity with it. Briansnat and GOT GPS? are completely correct. It is a shame in a way because it is a SiRF unit (albeit the older SiRF II chip not the newer SiRF III) and gets incredible satellite reception/lock in places where many GPSr's would have difficulty. It also is more portable than most "car" units and could easily be used as a handheld. If you look at the Tom Tom GO 300 in Epinions.com you'll see a thorough review I give on the whole issue (it applies to the 700 as well), I use the same username in Epinions so just look for my entry under it.

Good luck!
