+FollowMeChaps Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Sorry if this is a dumb question, but can I add files to my Geocahe page? I am talking about Word doc.'s, gpx and kmz files etc. I would like to include some so visitors to the cache could download extras such as description and routes for an interesting walk, etc. If the answer is 'yes', could you point me to where I could find out how? Thanks Quote

+Moote Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Fact Yes, you just need some webspace of your own to store them on. Quote
+FollowMeChaps Posted March 17, 2006 Author Posted March 17, 2006 Thanks. Being new to this I only last week learned some html and how to store images on the web using http://imageshack.us/ . Do you know of any equivalent where I can store non-graphic files? Quote
+Simply Paul Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 If you use AOL you get free web space with each of your screen names. The address would be http://members.aol.com/your-screen-name To upload to it click Internet, then FTP, then See My FTF Space - then Upload. Keep the file name the same on the net as it is on your computer to keep things simple. The final location, which you can link to would be something like: http://members.aol.com/your-screen-name/file-name.doc If you don't have AOL your ISP may still have given you some space. Check your service provider paperwork or CD. It gets complicated, but if you need a FTP programme google for AceFTP. It's a great free bit of software to upload files to your web space. If you have some Hope that helps! Quote
+FollowMeChaps Posted March 18, 2006 Author Posted March 18, 2006 Thanks Simply Paul and others above, it really does help. At this rate I'm going to end up an IT wizzard as well as a geocachger! Happy Cahching Quote

Just one small question: how do I find out what my hotmail screen name is? I tried my account name and that's not it so I'm stuck! Quote
+Simply Paul Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 As hotmail is 'web mail' rather than 'ISP mail' you don't get any free space with it. Did your ISP (whoever you use to connect to the Internet - like AOL, or Wannadoo, or Tiscali, etc) give you a CD and any info? Quote
barryhunter Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 There are a number of services that will host files for you imageshack does for images, this seems a reasonable list: http://www.freewebspace.net/guide/diskstorage.shtml Quote
