+IndyTechNerd
I'm assuming that good ol' MSPaint isn't going to cut it, but that a standard version of Photoshop would. Is there anything special I should know or program I should use instead of photoshop to start messing with this encryption method. A puzzle cache that I saw once used S-Tools, but that requires a passcode to decrypt. Also, are there any tutorials? I did a search on "steganography" and came up with a bunch of topics that mentioned it as an encryption method, but no details. Thanks in advance. Quote Link to comment
Dale_Lynn
Did you include the word "tutorial" in your search string..... I had many hits on "steganography tutorial" as a search string.... And yes it is basically a copyright protection system (encoding ) for graphics.... Dale Quote Link to comment
+fox-and-the-hound
I just had to go look that word up! I don't know how you would do that in photoshop unless you had some kind of special filter (or maybe I'm misunderstanding your intent), but I do know there are some great symbology books out there including an entire "secret" language of traveling hobos from years ago. They might inspire some new ideas for you to use, especially in a puzzle cache. check these out: http://www.slackaction.com/signroll.htm http://www.worldpath.net/~minstrel/hobosign.htm http://www.geocities.com/ctesibos/symbols/hobo.html http://www.allisonhunter.com/Signmakers/symbols.html Quote Link to comment
+IndyTechNerd
I'm not creating a puzzle cache (yet), just looking for ways to solve them. As for searching with "tutorial" added, I get the same results. Mostly, just mentions as a potential puzzle cache encryption method. Quote Link to comment
+KoosKoos
Then I think the search phrase you're seeking would be "cracking steganography". Of course, as you'll see in the search results, that's a pretty difficult task. If you're solving a puzzle for a cache, I bet there's a clue there somewhere that will tell you what and how to work out the stegnaography. On My cache (selfish promo off), I used an online app to create the visual cryptography pieces. Quote Link to comment
+Confucius' Cat
S-tools is pretty cool. You might try "obvious" passwords. Been there, found that. Check out This Cache for an idea where to find info about the subject written just a few centuries ago. (GO (babel)FISH) JPhide is one I found for hiding stuff in jpegs. It also requires a password. Also, don't overlook the obvious or ordinary. Not everything is as difficult as it could be. Things can sometimes be hidden by very simple means just using the software god (microsoft) gives you. I also use JPHide, and Camouflage . Camo works much more smoothly than JPHide. Edited March 4, 2006 by Kit Fox Quote Link to comment
