Help With Geocaching For Wheelchair User

My wife has Multiple Sclerosis and drives a powered chair. We are thinking about starting to enjoy the geocaching hobby. I would like to get any advice from others who may be disabled and in a wheelchair. Specifically, so many of the caches are in areas where a person must walk to find them. What is the best way to find/filter potential caches in a local area to try to identify those that might be wheelchair accessible. I live in Corvallis, OR.

Thanks,

Terry

See Handicaching- it's a site that rates caches by more than just difficulty/terrain, providing information that is useful to people needing particular access. For example, you can tell if the cache is wheelchair accessible, or if you could walk to it with assistance, if there's paved paths, changes in elevation, and so on.

Good luck and welcome to the sport!

As others mentioned, 1 star terrain is supposed to be handicap accessible. In practice it often isn't. If in doubt, contact the owner and ask. A handicap accessible icon has also been added recently and is searchable via pocket queries (a member feature that allows you to search for caches based on selected criteria).

Since this is really more of a general interest question than a "getting started" one, I'm moving it to the main forum where it will get more exposure.
